Welcome to the world of sports

BASKETBALL
 basketball is a game played by two 5-
player teams, the object of which is to
get the ball through the opposing
player's hoop the most times to score
the most points, or a large ball that is
used in the game. An example
of basketball is the game played by
Michael Jordan.
HISTORY OF BASKETBALL
PEACH BASKET
RULES OF THE GAME

 Rules for the offense

1) The player must bounce, or dribble, the
ball with one hand while moving both feet.
If, at any time, both hands touch the ball or
the player stops dribbling, the player must
only move one foot. The foot that is
stationary is called the pivot foot
 2) The basketball player can only take one
turn at dribbling. In other words, once a
player has stopped dribbling they cannot
start another dribble. A player who starts
dribbling again is called for a double-dribbling
violation and looses the basketball to the
other team. A player can only start another
dribble after another player from either team
touches or gains control of the basketball.
This is usually after a shot or pass
 3) The ball must stay in bounds. If the offensive
team looses the ball out of bounds the other
team gets control of the basketball.
 4 ) The players hand must be on top of the ball
while dribbling. If they touch the bottom of the
basketball while dribbling and continue to
dribble this is called carrying the ball and the
player will lose the ball to the other team.

5) Once the offensive team crosses half court,

they may not go back into the backcourt. This is
called a backcourt violation. If the defensive
team knocks the ball into the backcourt, then the
offensive team can recover the ball legally.
RULES FOR DEFFENSE

 1) The main rule for the defensive player is

not to foul. A foul is described as gaining an
unfair advantage through physical contact.
There is some interpretation that has to be
made by the referee, but, in general, the
defensive player may not touch the offensive
player in a way that causes the offensive
player to lose the ball or miss a shot.
RULES FOR EVERYONE
 1) Although the foul rule is described above as a defensive
rule, it applies exactly the same to all players on the court
including offensive players.
2) Basketball players cannot kick the ball or hit it with their
fist.
3) No player can touch the basketball while it is traveling
downward towards the basket or if it is on the rim. This is
called goaltending. (touching the ball on the rim is legal in
some games).
Every player on the court is subject to the same rules
regardless of the position they play. The positions in
basketball are just for team basketball strategy and there
are no positions in the rules.
EQUIPMENTS IN THE GAME

 The Ball

Professional leagues such as the NBA have

very precise parameters for the official
basketball they use. This includes color,
material, size, air pressure, and bounce. The
main thing to know about the basketball is
the size. There are different sizes for different
ages as well as for boys and for girls.
THE BALL
 The Basket

The basket is made up of the backboard, rim, and net. The rim
is 18 inches in diameter. A regulation backboard is 72 inches
wide by 48 inches tall, although you will find backboards can
vary in size.
The rim should be 10 feet from the ground. Typically a 10 foot
rim is used from ages 6th grade and older. For younger kids
you can lower the goal so that they can take a proper shot at
the goal. For kindergarten through second grade children you
can try a 6-foot goal. Then move it up to 8 feet for 3rd and 4th
grade. Try nine feet for 5th grade. Of course, this depends on
the size, strength, and skill of the player.

 The basketball net hooks onto eight rungs on the bottom of

the rim. It hangs down around 15 to 18 inches. The net helps
to slow the ball coming through the hoop and also to help see
whether a basket was made or not.
THE BASKET
THE COURT

 the basketball court is the playing surface,

consisting of a rectangular floor, with baskets
at each end. In professional or organized
basketball, especially when played indoors, it
is usually made out of a wood, often maple,
and highly polished and completed with a 10
foot rim. Outdoor surfaces are generally
made from standard paving materials such
as concrete or asphalt.

OFFICIALS IN THE GAME

 In basketball, an official (usually called a referee)

enforces the rules and maintains order in the
game. The title of official also applies to
the scorers and timekeepers, as well as other
personnel that have an active task in maintaining
the game. Basketball is regarded as among the
most difficult sports to officiate due to the speed
of play, complexity of rules, the case-specific
interpretations of rules, and the instantaneous
decision required.
 There is one lead referee and one or two umpires,
depending on whether there is a two- or three-
person crew. In the NBA, the lead official is called
the crew chief with one referee and
one umpire.[1] In FIBA-sanctioned play, two-man
crews consist of a referee and an umpire, and
three-man crews contain a referee and two
umpires.
 Regardless, both classes of officials have equal
rights to control almost all aspects of the game. In
most cases, the lead official (in FIBA, the referee)
performs the jump ball to begin the contest,
though NFHS and NCAA have allowed the referee
to designate which official (referee or umpire) shall
perform the jump ball.
TABLE
TENNIS
HISTORY OF TABLE TENNIS

 Like most other sports, table tennis had

humble beginnings as a “parlor game,”
open to anyone with access to a table,
paddle, and ball. The game began in the
1880s, when lawn tennis players adapted
their game to play indoors during the
winter. Ping-Pong is a trademark name
for table tennis and associated
equipment.
TABLE TENNIS

 Table tennis, also known as ping-pong, is a sport in

which two or four players hit a lightweight ball back
and forth across a table using small rackets. The
game takes place on a hard table divided by a net.
Except for the initial serve, the rules are generally as
follows: players must allow a ball played toward
them to bounce one time on their side of the table,
and must return it so that it bounces on the opposite
side at least once. A point is scored when a player
fails to return the ball within the rules. Play is fast
and demands quick reactions. Spinning the ball
alters its trajectory and limits an opponent's options,
giving the hitter a great advantage.
BASIC RULES OF THE GAME

 The service must start with the ball in an open

palm. ...
 The ball must be thrown vertically, at least 16
cm. ...
 The ball must be above and behind
the table throughout the serve. ...
 After throwing the ball, the server must get
their free arm and hand out of the way.

EQUIPMENTS IN THE GAME
 Racquet / Paddle
 The term keeps changing depending on the country where
it is played. As for Britain, it is bat; in the USA, it is called
a paddle. The term followed by ITTF is racquet.
 The racquet is laminated and covered with rubber on either
side or on both the sides depending on the player. The
player based on his/her grip decides whether they need the
rubber on either or on both sides.
 The handle of the racquet is called blade. This blade could
be made of many different materials varying from glass
fiber, cork, carbon fiber, Kevlar to aluminum fiber. But ITTF
recommends that at least 85% of the paddle has to be
made of wood. Woods to be used are cypress and Korina.
The bat is usually is 6 inches (15 cm) wide and 6.5 inches (17
cm) long.
 Ball
 The accuracy of the ball is determined by bouncing it
on a flat uniform surface from a height of 12 inches.
If the ball bounces for about 9.4-10.2 inches, then
that particular ball is perfect for play.
 ITTF has set certain rules for the ball’s dimension and
weight. A ball of 40 millimeters in diameter and as
light as 2.7 grams should only be used to play table
tennis.
 Usually the balls are manufactured in either white or
yellow color. The color might vary depending on the
color of table as well as surroundings. The ball is
made of plastic only and it should be ITTF approved.
Ball quality is displayed by manufacturers with star
mark ranging from one to three, three being the
highest.
The table
this is where
the game is to be
played.
The net

 Table tennis net gauge. A net gauge enables

you to set the net to the correct height (6
inches / 15.25 cm). The net gauge also
doubles as a tool to measure the thickness
and flatness of your racket rubbers to ensure
that they meet the ITTF regulations. They're
made of plastic and they're really easy to use.

BADMINTON
HISTORY OF BADMINTON
BADMINTON

a game with rackets in

which a shuttlecock is
played back and forth
across a net.
BASIC RULES OF BADMINTON
 Rules
 A player must wait until his opponent is ready before
serving. If the opponent attempts a return then he is ruled
having been ready.
 The feet of both players must remain in a stationary
position until the serve is made. Your feet can not be
touching the line at this time.
 It is not a fault if you miss the shuttle while serving.
 The shuttle cannot be caught and slung with the racket.
 A player cannot hold his racket near the net to ward off a
downward stroke by his opponent or to interfere with his
racket

RACKET

 light long-handled racket used

by badminton players
 Synonyms: badminton racquet, battledore
Type of: racket, racquet. a sports implement
(usually consisting of a handle and an oval
frame with a tightly interlaced network of
strings) used to strike a ball (or shuttlecock) in
various games.
FEATHERS

 A shuttlecock (also called a bird or birdie) is a

high-drag projectile used in the sport
of badminton. It has an open conical shape
formed by feathers (or a synthetic
alternative) embedded into a rounded cork
(or rubber) base. The shuttlecock's shape
makes it extremely aerodynamically stable.
NET

 The badminton net is what

evenly separates
the badminton court into two
sides creating the objective of
trying to make the shuttlecock hit
the floor on the opponent's side
to win a point.
COURT

 . badminton court - the court on

which badminton is played. badminton - a
game played on a court with light long-
handled rackets used to volley a shuttlecock
over a net. court - a specially marked
horizontal area within which a game is
played; "players had to reserve a court in
advance"
COURT MEASUREMENTS
Badminton shoes

 Badminton shoes are lightweight with soles

of rubber or similar high-grip, non-marking
materials. Compared to
running shoes, badminton shoes have little
lateral support. High levels of lateral support
are useful for activities where lateral motion
is undesirable and unexpected.
Badminton strings

 String tension refers to how tight the

racket string is tied to the racket, and it's
measured in pounds (lbs)
normally. Badminton string on a racket is
divided into the main and cross, where the
main is the vertical string lines whereas the
cross is the horizontal string lines.
Badminton grip

 In badminton, a grip is a way of holding

the racket in order to hit shots during a
match. The most commonly used grip is the
orthodox forehand grip. Most players
change grips during a rally depending on
whether it is a forehand or backhand shot.
