Write at least five descriptions from the video that you
have just watched. You are given 10 minutes to work together as a group and post your work after. The first to post their work will get an extra 10 points
Group 1 – Greenhouse Gases
Group 2 – Greenhouse Effect Group 3 – Climate Change Global 4 – Global Warming In this module, you should be able to… 1. Explain the relationship between Greenhouse Effect and Global Warming. 2. Identify the mechanism of Greenhouse Effect. 3. Formulate possible ways to help minimize Global Warming as a result of Greenhouse Effect. • This is Planet Venus, the second planet from the Sun and the hottest planet in the Solar System due to Greenhouse effect. • Surface temperature could soar as high as 464 °C. • No one would survive in Venus due to its inhospitable temperature. • The Venusian lander Venera was able to take photos in just 12 minutes and destroyed after due to the intense heat. Do you want Earth to become like Venus? FIRST OF ALL, WHAT IS A GREENHOUSE? • In temperate countries, a greenhouse is used to grow seedlings in the late winter and early spring and later, planted in the open field when the weather is warmer. • It also protects (Greenhouse) the plants from weather phenomena such as snowstorm or dust storms. • In tropical countries, greenhouses are used by commercial plant growers to protect flowering and ornamental plants from harsh weather conditions and insect attacks. • Greenhouses range in size from small sheds to very large buildings, their coverings range from glass or even plastic. OKAY GOT YOU IN THERE BUT… HOW DOES A GREENHOUSE WORK? • Greenhouses allow sunlight to enter but prevent heat from escaping. It warms the inside of the greenhouse as energy is absorbed by the plants, soil and other things inside the building. • The Earth’s atmosphere is compared to a greenhouse. Earth’s atmosphere contains trace gases such as Carbon Dioxide, water vapor, methane and ozone. These gases have similar effect on the sun’s rays. They allow sunlight to pass through, resulting in the warming up of the Earth’s surface. SO WHAT HAPPENS AFTER GREENHOUSE EFFECT? So what is the relationship between Greenhouse Effect and Global Warming? Think Tank… 1. What can you do to help minimize greenhouse effect? 2. What causes Greenhouse effect? 3. What is the result of Greenhouse Effect? 4. What would happen if global temperature keeps going high? ASSIGNMENT
1. Research on at least five human activities that affect the
atmosphere. Write your answers on your lecture notebook. Some answers can be found on your Learner’s Module, some can be found in the Internet. 2. What are Breezes and the difference of Sea Breeze and Mountain Breezes, Monsoons and Intertropical Convergence Zones?
