Regeneration

Steam is extracted from turbine & made to give

its latent heat & some sensible heat also to the
feed water circuit

Highest theoretical temp rise to the feed water

is the saturation temp of bled steam
Advt of Regeneration
 Fuel saving-
 Feed water temp is raised upto240oC on
Turbine by steam heating
 Hence from 240oC to 540oC is to be raised
on boiler by coal heating
 Heat loss in Circulating water system is
reduced-
 Because of HP/LP heaters steam flow to
condenser is reduced
 Latent heat carry away by Circulating water
is reduced
 Condenser size is reduced
 LP Turbine size is reduced
 Boiler size is reduced
 ID fan size reduced
 FD fan is reduced
 Chimney height is reduced
 Pulverizing mills size reduced
 Quantity of fly ash produced is reduced
 Types of Regeneration
 Controlled
 Uncontrolled
 No of HP/LP heaters should not be less than 5,
otherwise we loose efficiency raise due to
Regeneration
 No of HP/LP heaters should not be greater than 9,
 if we compare cost of piping and other accessories
Vs Heat gain due to Regeneration ,----Not Economic
 Heaters construction
 Shell
 Level column
 Level Transmitters signals are taken to control

function & indication .They generate Analog

signal
 Level switches signals are taken to certain

logic functions They generate Digital signal

 Level gauge glass for local level indication
 Vent pipe for sending out locked up gases
 Drain pipe for draining the shell for the
purpose of maintenance
 Safety valve to protect the shell from over
pressuring
 Steam inlet pipe
 Drain outlet pipe
 Water Box
 Feed water inlet pipe
 Feed water outlet pipe
 Vent pipe
 Drain pipe
 Safety valve
 Tube bundle
 Inverted U tube-inside water flows-outside steam
occupy-By conduction heat transfer take place
