IRCK is the national coalition of faith communities
in Kenya working through their religious
coordinating bodies (RCB). These include:
º Kenya Episcopal Conference-Catholic Secretariat (KEC-CS)
º National Council of Churches of Kenya (NCCK)
º Evangelical Alliance of Kenya (EAK)
º Organisation of African Instituted Churches (OAIC) Kenya
º Seventh-Day Adventist Church (SDA)
º Supreme Council of Kenya Muslims (SUPKEM)
º National Muslim Leaders Forum (NAMLEF)
º Shia Ithnasharia Muslim Association (SHIA)
º Hindu Council of Kenya (HCK

 

 


ë IRCK has been working with UNICEF since 2003
ë Did research and published on FBO Responses to OVC ʹ
[

  in 2004
ë In 2004, was part of the UNICEF-RfP partnership that wrote
the manual ͞What Religious leaders Can Do ʹ In a World
Full of HIV͟
ë In 2007 started collaboration on
 
ʹ a unique
fundraising for children by religious leaders using a telethon
and radiothon
ë In 2008, started mobilising communities and families for
-   (Good Nurturing) our national version of
maternal and child weeks ʹ challenges of basis of using
religious leaders for accelerated child survival and devt
emerge

ë Despite the target audience, process has been
very male dominated ʹ not many female
theologians, at least in Kenya
ë Initial plan to have one Christian process was ill
advised and cost valuable time
ë Hindu compilation has lagged behind ʹ within
Hinduism they have 4 main strains and their
scriptures are in several volumes in 5 languages
including Sanskrit which is not widely spoken
ë Process has been slow ʹ consultations required at
every stage
