Remote / virtual OST
● This flexible arrangement for a remote / virtual OST is a one-time
measure for the year 2020 for those students who are unable to do
the regular OST.

● This option is being allowed in view of the concerns around COVID-19


and the general lockdown that have been announced by the
Government of India and the respective state governments that
prevents students from carrying out the OST on-site in the identified
company.

● This arrangement is to enable the students to continue the course


work to meet the academic goals of the MBA program while fully
complying with the COVID-19 safety measures.
Identifying a company for remote /
virtual
● Criteria OST
1: Identify a manufacturing firm of your choice that
meets the criteria mentioned in the OST Syllabus (Manufacturing
firm with 100+ crores turnover).

● Criteria 2: It is preferable (although not mandatory) that the


manufacturing company identified by you is listed on national
stock exchanges in India (Bombay Stock Exchange or National Stock
Exchange). This will ensure that there is sufficient information

● You can gain access to online resources about the company:
○ Company Website (relevant links could be About Us, Careers,
Investor Relations, News)
○ Online documents - Company Annual Reports, Investor
Presentation, Analyst Meets
○ Company information on the BSE / NSE website
○ Financial / Business Information websites such as
www.moneycontrol.com/, www.equitymaster.com/,
www.bloombergquint.com/ that carry news articles about the
identified company
Interviewing managers / employees for the remote /
virtual OST?
● If possible, interview (via phone, email) your industry mentor and
other employees of the company (preferable but not mandatory), with
prior approval from the company.

● In addition for employee opinions about company, you may check out
www.glassdoor.com to understand how employees view the company
Report Preparation
● You will be expected to submit a 30 page report based on your remote
/ virtual OST.

● Also, you are expected make a power point presentation (8 – 10


minutes) summarizing the report and your learning

● These submissions will be due when your are on campus for the
regular classes
Evaluation
● This course has 2 credits and carries 100 marks. Marks will be
reflected in the transcript at the end of the first trimester.

● The evaluation will be on the scale of (Excellent / Good / Satisfactory /


Poor) for the following parameters:
○ Number of topics studied and reported (10 marks)
○ Mapping the organization type (10 marks)
○ SWOT Analysis (10 marks)
○ Interaction with mentor (10 marks)
○ Weekly work dairy submission to mentor (10 marks)
○ OST Presentation (20 marks)
○ Report format and quality (20 marks)
○ Quiz (10 marks)

What is a virtual OST?


● Virtual OST is done online or remotely as part of your MBA Program
requirement.

How many hours do I need to spend for the OST


● You are expected to put in at least 60 hours of effort on your remote
/ virtual OST. It is advisable that you maintain a work dairy showing
the dates and the number of hours spent on the OST

Why should I choose a company listed on NSE / BSE?


● Listed companies are mandated to comply with Securities and
Exchange Board of India (SEBI) data disclosure norms. Hence online
access to data for such companies is easier when compared to
unlisted companies.

Should I interview managers / employees as part of the
remote / virtual OST?
● It would be good if you can interview over phone / skype managers
and employees, with prior approval from the company identified by
you. But given the lockdown situation, this may not be possible. So
interviewing managers employees is desirable but not mandatory.

How will this virtual OST be beneficial to me?


● This OST will allow you to gain knowledge about real world business
practices by focusing on a specific company and how it operates to
achieve its business goals. The virtual OST can be done without
leaving your home !

● Also for completing online OST you need to be highly motivated and
organized. Without the constant of an industry mentor in an office
setting, you will gain the ability to manage your own time and
