society

• A guild set standards for the quality
of products, controlled prices, kept
out unskilled craftspeople, and
eliminated competition
• Also took care of members in
case of sickness or accident

as important.
• Member of merchant guilds (buy/sell a

powerful
• Some could afford their own
armies/ navies.
• Creates a middle class in society
