INTRODUCTION

The Mumbai Ahmedabad High Speed Rail


(MAHSR) is proposed between Mumbai
and Ahmedabad. The total distance is 506
kms with 12 stations; 4 in Maharashtra
and 8 in Gujarat. The estimated budget is
1.1 lakh crores and the targeted
completion date is August 2023.
A Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV) has been
created with participation from Ministry of
Railways and state governments of Gujarat
and Maharashtra.

WHY RISK MANAGEMENT

High Speed Train projects are exposed to


risks of different natures and if not
addressed properly can become real
problems. In the case of MAHSR project, the
uncertainty elements are: Social, Politics,
Environment, Land Acquisition and
Technology. This study presents a
framework for categorizing risks and
propose mitigation plans.
