Big Data –The 5 Vs
(Prof. Nitesh Verma)
 What is data?
Data is collection of figures ,facts ,number , score we obtained ,etc
 The amount of data in our worlds has been exploding
 Companies capture trillions of byte of information about their customers
,suppliers , and operations ,and millions of networked sensors are being
embedded in the physical world in devices such as mobile phones and
automobile, sensing ,creating and communicating data.
 Multimedia and individuals with smart –phones and on social network sites
will continue to fuel exponential growth.
 Top 2 most Visited Websites
What is
‘Big-data’ is similar to ‘Small-data’, but BIGGER
…but having data that is bigger ,it requires different approaches :
techniques ,tools, architecture
..with an aim to solve new problems
..or old problems in a better way.
Big Data is a collection of data sets so large and complex that it becomes
difficult to process using on-hand database management tools.
The challenges include capture, storage , search , sharing ,analysis, and
visualization.
BIG Data is the realization of greater business intelligence by storing,
processing, and analyzing data that was previously ignored due to the
limitation of traditional data management technologies.
The 5V’s of BIG DATA
Project Management –Overview (Prof.
Seema Joshi)
What is a project ?
“A temporary endeavor undertaken to create a unique product
or service. ”
Examples of Project
Effecting a change in structure ,staffing or style of an organization.
Developing new or modified information system.
Constructing new building or infrastructure.
Implementing new business process or procedure.
Developing new products or services.
Improve quality of life of low income residents for community X-
An example of progressive elaboration.
What is Project Management ?
Project management is application of knowledge ,
skills , tools and techniques to project activities to
meet project requirements.
It involves 5 process groups and Nine Knowledge areas
like
Project Life cycle of project
Role of Project Manager
(as proposed by PMI)
Project Management-Project Integration
Management(Prof. Seema Joshi)
 Bringing it all together:
 Building the project plan
 Project execution
 Integrated change control

 Project management “Nerve Center”

Project Integration Management
 Develop Project Charter :

In this process, Project manager develops a document that formally authorizes the
existence of a project and gives the project manager an authority to use
organizational asset to perfect project start with project boundaries. This process
also records every thing as a formal record.

 Develop Project Management Plan :

In this process, Project manager defines, prepares and co-ordinates all the plans
and integrate in to a comprehensive project management plan which acts as central
document for all the work involved in the project

 Direct and manage project work :

In this process, Project manager leads and performs the work defined in the project
management plan and approves changes to achieve the project goals and objectives.
This process manages the project work
Project Integration Management
 Monitor and control project work :

This process helps to track, review, and report the progress to meet the performance
objectives as defined in project management plan. This process also helps the
stakeholders to understand the current state of project, limitations, budget, scope,
steps taken and schedule of the project.

 Perform Integrated Change Control :

This process reviews all the change requests, approves rejects the changes or
modifications to project documents, deliverables, baselines or project management
plan.

 Close project or phase :

This process formally brings all the project activities to an end and completes the
project or phase and release the organizational resources for other projects. This
process provides the guidance and lessons learned in the project.
Project Management-Project Scope
Management (Prof. Seema Joshi)
Scope Management:
Ensure project includes all the work and only the work
the work required.
Constantly checking you are doing all the work.
Not letting additions to scope without a structured
change control system.
Ensuring all the changes fit within Project Charter.
Clearly stating what is and is not included in the
Project.
Preventing extra work or gold piating.
Project Scope Mangement …contd.
Staying vigilant in defining a containing scope
throughout the project
1. Project initiation
2. Scope planning
3. Scope definition

4. Scope verification
5. Scope change control
There two types of Project Management Scope which are
1. Project Scope
2. Product Scope
Activities of Project Scope Management

Planning Process Group

Plan Scope Management:
It is where you create scope management plan with which one can define, validate and control the
project scope. This process provides guidance and direction of managing scope across the project.
Collect Requirements :
It is where you collect requirements from all stakeholders who you have identified as an impact in
the project. You need to identify the stakeholder to collect requirement where you to get through
Project stakeholder management to get the process. You need to create Requirement Traceability
matrix using different ways to collect requirement from stake holders like brainstorming and
organizing workshops and others.
 Define Scope :
It is where project manager will define the actual work that needs to be performed to meet
project objectives. It is the responsibility of project manager to define the scope after
accessing and understanding the complete goals, requirements and objectives gathered
from stakeholder. Out put would be the project scope statement.
 Create WBS :
WBS is an important term where a project manager would be interested in. Known
as Work Breakdown Structure. Where as in project scope management, All the work that
needs to be done to achieve goals is determined. Where in WBS , Project manager will have
divide in to manageable task. Note that the lowest level of WBS is said to be WPL ( Work
Package Level )

Monitoring and controlling process group

 Verify Scope :
It is where the results provided by  the scope and WBS are aligning with the quality. All the
deliverables will be validated by the client or management to foresee the project is
processing as planned after "Perform Quality Control".

 Control Scope :
It is where a project manager has to be efficient in dealing with Time and Cost and calculate
how does it impacts the project and its process. Project manager has to handle and balance
the scope baselines as it is subjected to be changed by the stake holders or the customer

10 IMPORTANT SKILLS ALL GOOD LEADERS SHARE
 It's not about a position or title. It's about the actions you take.
  There are specific skills that can help you become the leader you want to be and know you can
become.
1) Build collaboration.
The best leaders use whatever power they have--and their time and energy--to collaborate
with others. Position yourself as a leader who is there to support the success of those around
you. You'll find that when they succeed, you succeed.
2) Focus on your team.
The people working with you are your most important asset. Be there to serve them by investing
in them, appreciating them, and developing them.
3) Call out dysfunction.
Nobody likes dealing with drama. But sometimes it's necessary to keep small problems from
growing into something overwhelming. Leaders must be able to address dysfunction in their
team with consistent policies and a strong stand expressed calmly and confidently.
4) Challenge the status quo.
To develop into a great leader, you first need to understand where and how you can truly make
an impact. Strong leadership doesn't maintain the status quo but takes on powerful challenges
and finds a way to make a significant difference in any situation.
5) Concentrate on learning.
Business is competitive, and as a leader you have to be ahead of the curve. Learning, growth and
responding to change are key. Cultivate a passion for learning in yourself and your team.
6)  Be accessible and available.
Great leaders understand the value of connection with others and spend time with their
team on a regular basis.
7)  Establish your values and convictions.
Every action you take speaks to who you are as a leader, and every expressed value
demonstrates your beliefs. By establishing your values and standing up for your convictions,
you let others know where you are. A leader's values are like fingerprints: nobody's are the
same, and you leave them on everything you do.
8) Demonstrate accountability at every level.
Accountability is essential to getting things done, the glue that ties commitment to results.
To work, accountability has to be consistent at all levels--including your own.
9) Lead with character.
Values and convictions are important, but character is what keeps your actions and words in
line with what you believe.
10) Pass your leadership on.
True leaders are always nurturing and mentoring others on the team, which means letting
them take the wheel sometimes. When you allow others to take the lead, you give them a
chance to showcase their skills and talent, and you inspire your whole team to bring their
best.
Great leaders don't set out to be a leader... they set out to make a difference. It's
never about the role, position or title, it's always about making an impact.
3 TECHNOLOGIES TO MAKE 'DIGITAL INDIA'
DREAM COME TRUE
 In the last few decades, telecom services and information technology in India have seen a
steady progress.
  Today we are inching towards a New India. With PM Narendra Modi’s Digital India
vision, India is seeing a paradigm shift moving gradually towards a cashless economy,
with Digital at the forefront and a more conducive business environment.
 As India celebrates its 70th Independence Day on August 15, we look at some of the
technologies that have already made a dent into the Indian territory and will continue to
have a greater impact on business and the economy.
 The Internet
 One of the major technology that has and will further take India to a different level is
the internet and more so 5G.
 The deployment of free wi-fi in various public places is yet another digital leap. The
Telecom Regulatory Authority of India, TRAI, has revealed plans to set up hotspot
Wi-Fi network across the country. This will provide internet connectivity at a much
cheaper rate than what the telcos are offering currently.
 As a part of Prime Minister Modi’s Digital India initiative, The Indian Railways have
partnered with Google to provide Wi-Fi broadband facility to passengers at major
railway stations across India.
 The initiative named Google RailTel was launched in January 2016 and till date has
reached 140 stations across India. They further plan to reach 400 stations by 2018.
 Internet-of Things (IoT)
 With efficient internet comes the IOT revolution which will be fueled exhaustively further
with the coming of 5G.
 Homes in India are also to see digital transformation with IoT. Indian telecom major
Bharti Airtel is set to enter home automation and smart home segment soon.
 Artificial Intelligence [AI]
 As far as decision-making mechanisms go, there is no better example than the human
brain, so Artificial intelligence must evolve to emulate it. Scientists are now using AI tools
that understand and respect human decision-making, and are able to provide readers with
input and support regarding the information, explanations, options, and outcomes that
are important to them.
 Today AI is used various domains like security, manufacturing etc. and can become central
to the economic growth of India.
 Big Data
 Big Data is a term for data sets so complex or huge that conventional data-processing
techniques are insufficient. Data sets are analyzed and assessed to uncover unknown
correlations and patterns. Mathematical and statistical models and algorithms are used to
find trends and make predictions.
 The application of bigdata is widespread in India, from healthcare to banking to retail to
manufacturing to education to name a few.
 As per the experts, India is currently among top 10 big data analytics markets in the world.
Technology will play a vital role in realising India’s dream in areas like Digital India,
Make in India, and Skilling India.
THE FUTURE OF CRM IN INDIA
 CRM or Customer Relationship Management has become an integral part of
any successful business, significant as much as marketing and sales.
 The technology has today become a vital tool to connect with the new age
consumers on a more personal level.
 As the markets evolved, the CRM too has grown from being a single tool on one
medium to a multi-faceted tech boom operating across platforms and modified
to suit unique needs of consumers across domains, from financial services,
healthcare, logistics, travel & hospitality to even pharmaceuticals, education
and HR.
 According to Gartner forecasts, CRM market in India was valued at around INR
18 billion in 2014 and is estimated to grow at a CAGR of around 20.9% over
2014-19*. A CAGR of 14.8% is estimated through 2017 alone. While the global
market for Customer Relationship Management (CRM) software is expected to
grow to INR 2,639.7 billion by 2019, the Asia/Pacific has recorded tremendous
growth of 18.7% in 2014.
 Key trends that will lead to the massive number and redefine the entire brand consumer relationship,
are as listed below:

1. CRM strategies for the intelligent consumer

The CRM will also be a significant tool that will offer real-time targeting/analytics and insights into
the ever evolving mind of the modern consumer.
2. Artificial Intelligence (AI) to uncover market insights
The use of Artificial Intelligence techniques will play a vital role in analysis of this huge chunk of
data, and help generate intelligent insights to further shape an effective CRM strategy.
3. Social & Mobile CRM for sentiment analysis and influence
Despite the growing popularity of social media and mobile channels, CRM has so far not been well
integrated to fully harness the power of these platforms.
4. Integrated & Best in class suits
With tools now available to connect CRM with the expanding platforms of cloud, mobile, social
media, marketing automation, and other applications, including the cloud and IoT, integration is set
to be the key differentiator for brands while creating and implementing effective CRM strategies.
5. Big Data and predictive analysis
Lastly, big data analytics have been helpful in providing insights and effective direction to the CRM
strategy for years, there has been a steady increase in need of smaller, more acute and in-depth
analysis of smaller pockets of data, to generate a rather specific set of understanding.

The future of CRM in India is set to be driven through intelligent data analysis and efficient market
insights, spreading across social, mobile and cloud platforms.
SLOW IT GROWTH, HIGH TALENT SUPPLY MAY KEEP
SALARIES LOW
 At times of slow growth, India has seen number of graduates doubling
since 2008 to almost 25 million in 2016
 Entry-level IT jobs will continue to see low wage as the Indian software services
industry foresees a slowdown in offshore services to the country in future.
  Salary growth prospects for entry-level IT professionals will not be much given
the fact that offshore jobs will not come in large quantities in contrast with the
sharply growing number of information technology graduates, said a report by
Everest Group, a Dallas, US-based IT consulting and research firm.
 At times of slow growth, India has seen number of graduates doubling since
2008 to almost 25 million in 2016. Of the total graduates, up to 18 per cent are
from engineering and information technology streams.
 “More competition will keep the salary down over the 25-35 years horizon. The
wage growth will remain muted. People were getting 8-10 per cent growth (on an
average), but they will now be getting 4-5 per cent as they move up the pyramid.
But the pressure will still remain on the entry-level positions,” said Michel
Janssen, Chief Research Guru, Everest Group, Dallas, US-based IT research firm.
 “Indian Companies are now becoming more global and they are more
interested in being like IBM, Accenture and to do that they are going to
need more (local)people in the US, in the UK. They will still do what it
needs to grow their companies, it may cost a little bit of money,” added
Janssen.

 Number of graduates doubled in 8 years to 25 million

 Up to 18% of them are engineering and IT graduates
 Oversupply pushes companies to keep wages low
 Offshore jobs unlikely to come back in 25-30 years
 IT firms equally focus on more local hiring onshore
 Automation pressure on wage growth
HOW CAN MACHINE LEARNING KEEP
YOUR NETWORK SAFE?

 Imperva has championed machine learning techniques as a solution to

complex cybersecurity problems
 The cyber security industry is ripe for machine-learning applications.
 Cyber security solutions need to analyze huge amounts of data in the form of
alerts, and machine learning when applied correctly excels at aggregating it and
presenting it in a way that cyber security professionals get an intuitive picture
of what is happening and can act quickly to improve the security posture of
their organization.
 Bearing this in mind, it becomes apparent why machine learning solutions
could provide a sustainable solution. Whether direct cyberattacks or insider
threats, machine learning’s ability to analyze complex and large data sets is
invaluable, especially when considering the current cyber skills shortage which
is being felt globally.
 Imperva  uses machine learning technology and its domain expertise in data
and application security to solve cyber security problems.
 For example, in CounterBreach, machine learning algorithms analyse every
SQL query by each unique user in an organisation. This allows security
professionals to see beyond login records and gain valuable insight into exactly
what data was accessed by which user, so they can zero in on abnormal user
behaviours and head off potential threats.
 It can also detect abnormal insider behavior because many users have
legitimate access to the data.
 Machine learning helps them track and analyse users’ activity and flag
inappropriate or abusive behaviour.
 Terry Ray, CTO at Imperva has long championed machine learning techniques
as a solution to complex cybersecurity problems. He said, "Businesses can
employ solutions, especially those based on machine learning technology that
can process and analyse vast amounts of data, to help them pinpoint critical
anomalies that indicate misuse of enterprise data and that also help them to
quickly quarantine risky users to prevent and contain data breaches
proactively."
CLOUD COMPUTING BOOSTS HYBRID CLOUD
ADOPTION: STUDY
 Cloud computing is completely changing the way enterprises see and approach IT.
The shift can be traced to SaaS applications and has now found prominence in data
centers with a larger focus on hybrid cloud initiatives.
 A latest study by Evaluator Group survey of enterprise IT administrators found that
62 percent are of the opinion that a hybrid cloud infrastructure is in their long-term
future and 58 percent believe they would increase their hybrid cloud workload in
2017.
 John Webster, an Evaluator Group senior partner is of the view that hybrid cloud is
mainly an IT architecture that integrates on-premises computing resources with off-
premises public cloud resources. “This includes multi-cloud architectures,” he said.
 According to Webster, disaster recovery (DR) is the most common hybrid cloud use
cases among traditional enterprise users. “Upwards of 80 percent in our survey
research,” he noted. Hybrid architectures enable enterprises to spin-up DR sites on-
demand. Although the hybrid cloud calls for enterprises to examine an area that is
for many organizations a completely new data center concept, the results,
particularly in DR, are generally worth the initial cost of the effort.
 “DR has long been a lagging capability because of cost, complexity, and
availability of resources,” Webster states. “Hybrid cloud removes some of those
barriers to adoption.”
 Webster said that the hybrid cloud is defined as the end state for a lot of
enterprise IT organizations. “In some cases, it is a way station between moving
all IT resources to public clouds and the eventual shut-down of on-premises
data centers,” he noted.
 The technology’s long-term stance is not very clear. “The thinking at the
moment among many enterprise users is that there will always be some
percentage of their applications that will remain on-premises and will,
therefore, be ‘hybridized’,” said Webster. “However, that assumes that the
degree of difficulty in supporting [applications] is manageable and the costs for
doing so are reasonable.”
RESEARCH REPORT AND OVERVIEW ON DATA
MASKING TECHNOLOGY MARKET, 2017-2027
 The data masking technology market is growing as industries ranging from BFSI to
government are becoming extremely cautious to the internal hacking and data privacy
concerns.
 Recent technologies like big data where massive databases are generated, exposing it
to greater risk. In order to address these concerns for preventing outside attacks, data
masking technology is used which can be used to and analyze the data in proxy.
 Data masking technology provide data security by cloning the original data into a
non-sensitive proxy which look like similar data. This non-sensitive data can be used
in business process for testing and analysis without the risk of breaking the business.
Dynamic masking is the recent trend in database access which is growing.
 Data masking technology market is mainly driven by the need for data security and
privacy concerns. Data masking technology market is also driven by generation of
large amount of data which is to be analyzed and tested without disturbing the normal
business operations. Companies mainly prefer in data masking technology for Testing
and analysis of the data, Production Database Protection and compliance for diverse
requirements.
 Recently in data masking technology market there is significant growth in dynamic
masking which is used to operate on masked data in real-time.
 Global Data Masking Technology market is segmented based on the end-user
verticals, deployments models and region.; On the basis of the end-user
vertical the global Data Masking Technology market is segmented into BFSI,
retail, telecomm, health care, energy, education, automobile, public sector and
others.; On basis of deployment models global Data Masking Technology

GOAL SETTING – HOW TO SET THE RIGHT
GOALS EFFECTIVELY?
 The primary goal for all businesses is the success. What this suggests is that setting of
organizational goals, aligning and tracking them through actions and results should necessarily
be a priority if greater success is to be achieved. The most important rule of goal setting is
honesty.
 Some Guidelines for Goal Setting effectively :
1) Set and focus on few and realistic goals
When setting goals for your employees, it is always prudent to ensure that you come up with
fewer goals. When setting goals, you need to realize that less is more. In other words, that you do
not have to set many goals at the same time because the chances are high that the employees will
not be able to focus on these many goals and as a result, you will end up frustrated.
2) Select goals that are of great relevance
All goals are relevant in one way or the other, but there are those that enable you to achieve
what you seemingly prefer as your biggest payoff.  There are those that should be given utmost
preference because they align to making a relatively greater impact on the organization both in
the short and long term.
3) Focus on goals that align closely with the organization’s mission
Some goals are usually exciting and fun to achieve than others. These are some of the goals that
you should not ignore or overlook because of a mere fact that they are uninteresting. You need to
understand that these are some of the best goals to focus on as long as they are closely linked to
the mission of your organization.
4) Revisit and update the goals from time to time
Organizational goals are never cast in stone such that what is written or set should hardly be
altered or improved. Each organization sets its goals depending on what they want to attain
be it in short or long term which eventually guarantees them success in their undertaking.
5) Frame the goal statements positively
When setting organizational goals, it is always important to ensure that you write them down
in a manner that portrays positivity. The act and process of goal setting are as important as
you may think because it helps in always reminding you of what needs to be achieved and the
time-frame too. The goal statement needs to be in motivating approach that elicits positivity
to the employees and giving them a reason to work hard and accomplish the goals.
6) Formulate an action plan and stick with it
One thing that many people usually forget when setting organizational goals is outlining the
essential steps to achieving the set goals. What happens in most cases is that people are often
too focused on attaining the goal but forget these important steps. An action plan helps you to
track the progress that enables you to determine whether or not you are on the right path of
attaining the specific goal.
Conclusion
Effective goal setting is a critical process that needs to be undertaken with thoughtfulness. It
is actually about what you want to happen and thus the need to ensure that you define what
you need and why you want it done otherwise, chances of succeeding reduce considerably.
Adopting the SMART approach in setting goals is also a great way of making sure that you
come up with a few and important goals to focus on achieving.
