• The Philippine Association of Social Workers,

Inc. (PASWI) was founded on November 12,


1947, and incorporated on April 18, 1948. It
was re-incorporated with the Securities and
Exchange Commission on October 18, 1988,
changing its name to Philippine Association of
Social Workers, Incorporated which is now
famously known as PASWI.
• A major breakthrough for the
professionalization of social work practice in
the Philippines was achieved by PASWI through
its militant pursuit of republic act 4373 (RA
4373) an act to regulate the practice of social
work and the operation of social work agencies
in the Philippines and for other purpose was
enacted into law last June 19, 1965 as
amended by RA 5175 last August 4, 1967.

• A national organization for professional Social Workers in
the Philippines
• Registered with the Securities & Exchange Commission (SEC)
• The sole Accredited Professional Organization (APO)
recognized by the Professional Regulation Commission (PRC)
• A member of the International Federation of Social Workers
(As of 2002, there are 1.5 million professional social workers
in practice globally)
• A charter member of Philippine Social Science Council (PSSC

• Registered Social Workers
• In the Philippines, registered Social Workers are tasked with the following
responsibilities:

• Identify people who are in need of help


• Help individuals of all stages of life to cope with and solve everyday problems
• Advocate for and create plans to improve well-being
• Work with persons, families, or groups
• Respond to those in need of help in crisis situations
• Research and refer their clients to community resources
• Work in an array of public and private organizations
• Several social workers describe the profession as challenging, fun, and fulfilling all
at the same time because they get to meet different people and help them solve
their problems
• Registered Social Workers Board Exam
• In the Philippines, to become a Registered Social Worker, an
individual must both:

• 1. Be a graduate of a “BS in Social Work” course in an


accredited educational institution in the Philippines; and
• 2. Pass the Social Workers Licensure Examination, which is
administered by the Board of Social Workers under the
supervision of the Professional Regulation Commission (PRC).
• The Social Workers Board Exam is conducted once a year,
either in June or July of every year.

• Social Welfare, Ethics, Policies, Program including secondary
social work method namely: Administration Research, and

• Field Practice
