 Overview

• The majority of the population of the City of Derry is divided into two groups, Catholic and
Protestant. There is large tensions between these groups due to the violent past of the
troubles in the late 1900s.
• Many lives were taken during this conflict and while peace has been mostly made, many
are reluctant to let go of the hatred
 • I believe that although there are many programs
in place to try and bring catholic and protestant
communities together, I believe that it is not fully
My Idea healing the wounds the way it is indented
• I believe that young people from Catholic and
protestant need more experience together rather
than being taught about being together
Why I believe this and why it is a Good Idea

• I believe this as all the current programs being operated seem to work but
to a small extent it needs to be a wider project
• We have been progressing in getting to this point and huge improvements
have been made but without giving both sides more of an opportunity to
mix we will hit a standstill and while the tensions will be at an all time low
its won’t be to the minimum possible
 Conclusion
• Overall people want change and I believe my idea
would bring us a huge step closer to getting there
whether it is more integrated schools or a large scale
cross community project
