Week 2: Lecture Tutorial

TUTORIAL TASKS – WEEKS 1 & 2:
1. Familiarizing yourself with vUWS environment
There is an e-learning student support website which will help with your use of vUWS. Refer to the
following web link:

2. Understanding Requirements of Unit Outline and Learning Guide

You can find Unit Outline and Learning Guide in the ‘Unit Information’ folder on vUWS.

3. Understanding Requirements of Unit Assessment

You can find detailed requirements of Unit Assessment in the Learning Guide and in the ‘Assessment’
folder. Please bear in mind that plagiarism is regarded as cheating and is strictly prohibited.
4. Teaming up for the Group Assignment
For this assignment, you are required to work in a team of up to five (5) students who are formally enrolled in this
unit. A vUWS group discussion forum will be created exclusively for your team to facilitate your collaboration outside
class times.

By 23:59 Sunday 15 March 2020, you are required to form your own teams by enrolling yourself into a group via
vUWS. If you fail to do so by the due date, a teaching staff will help you by randomly enrolling you into a group with
vacancies. If you wish to change your group membership, you must discuss it with the unit coordinator and seek her
formal written approval. The unit coordinator will decide at her discretion whether or not to approve the proposed
change on a case-by-case basis. Changing group membership without the unit coordinator’s approval may result in
being awarded zero (0) mark for your assignment.

Each team MUST have a team leader who will be managing and coordinating the team. Upon forming up your team,
the team leader is required to contact the unit coordinator via email.
Project Integration Management – Sample PMP Template Demonstration

The tutor will further explain the group assignment and briefly demonstrate a sample Project Management
Plan (PMP) template.
• Assignment projects
 Two cases are provided in Vuws site
 The teaching staff will lead a detailed discussion during class time. You are thus strongly
recommended to attend Lectures and Tutorials.
 You may also develop a PMP on some other project that you prefer, subject to the formal approval
by the unit coordinator.
Project Scope Management – Group Exercise on WBS and WBS Dictionary

Company XYZ has won the contract to construct a gas station. Work in your
assignment group and develop a WBS (of at least three levels), either in the
format of an organizational chart or an outline, and a WBS dictionary for the gas
station construction.

Hint: The first level is ‘Gas Station’ and the second level may include, but are not
limited to, Packaging and Service Area, Foundation, Wall/Shell, Roof, Interior
Finishes, Exterior Finishes, Interior Floors, Mechanical System, and Electrical
System.
