ANETCH ITEY?

Can you recognize

what type of rocks are
presented in the
picture?
A SONG FOR YOU!

ROCK SONG
ACTIVITY
“MISSION
TOKHANG
(ROCK HUNT)”
You will be divided into five (5)
groups. Each group will be given
the activity sheet. And answer
will answer according to their
station.
You will now move through the rock cycle. At
each station, You will roll the dice, and according
to the Rock Cycle Station sheet, they will undergo
a change (pressure, heat, hurricane, volcanic
eruption) and will move or stay depending on how
their type of rock would respond. For example, if
one of you is an igneous rock, and it undergoes
weathering, it will become sediment, and so that
you would move to the Sediment station and roll
again.
 ANSWER THE
ACTIVITY SHEET
GIVEN TO YOUR
GROUP ACCORDING
ACTIVITY
TO THE ACTIVITY SHEET
 After
several rounds, you will gather back together and compare
what forms they underwent in the MISSION TOKHANG!

Guide Questions:

What
 are the types of rocks that you have identified?
Explain your answer.
Describe the differences between igneous, sedimentary

and igneous rock.
What are the physical and chemical properties of the rocks

that you have identified?
How each type of rocks were created?

rock
A rock is a naturally occurring
aggregate of minerals and/or
other rock fragments
Igneous rocks
- formed from molten rock material
Igneous rocks

- Formed when magma cools

deep within the Earth’s
surface
- Cools very slowly as it is in
contact with molten rock
- Produces course-grained
igneous rock.
Intrusive
Igneous Rock
Igneous rocks

- Magma that cools above the

Earth’s surface
- Produces fine-grained
igneous rocks
- This rapid cooling does not
allow time for crystals to Extrusive Igneous
form
Rock
sedimentary rocks
- formed from materials from
previously existing rocks
Sediments
- Weathered rock materials
- Dissolved rock materials
Compaction

Cementation
metamorphic rocks
Rocks changed by heat, pressure, or hot
solutions due to:
- Movement of the Earth’s crust
- Heat generated by intrusion of hot
magma
- Pressure can change rock by
flattening, deforming, or realigning
mineral grains.
ROCK
CYCLE
- Describes the continually
changing structure of
rocks.

QUIZ: ¼ SHEET OF PAPER

Using a venn diagram, compare and contrast

the three classifications of rocks.
EXTEND
Arrange the terms below to illustrate the Rock Cycle in a diagram.

-Intrusive Igneous Rock -Sedimentary Rock

-Extrusive Igneous Rock -Compaction and cementation
-Magma -Sedimentation
-Magma from molten crust and -Transport and deposition
mantle -Weathering and erosion
-Melting -Slow uplift to the surface
-Metamorphic rock
-Burial, high temperatures and
pressures
