Relocating proposal
Wisma Persekutuan Alor Setar &
Wisma Negeri

This zone includes government offices,

police stations, schools and other
institutional. Both located in the middle
of Royal Building. During weekday, the
government servant vehicles parked
nearby this area. The street is congested
during peak hours. The utilities not
maintained very well. Basically the area
is crowded with daily activities during
weekdays. At night all offices is closed
and not offering much entertainment. To
conserve the royal building and make
them outstanding, the idea is to relocate
the institutional building functions and
transfer all workers to another working
area.

The goal is to left this area belong to

tourists and visitors only. The existing
building can be utilized as boutique hotel
since not much hotel nearby this area.
Alor Setar also famous with local
delicacy like Nasi Kandar, Laksa and
traditional kueh and now become a top
destination for trip vacation in Malaysia.
Since the area is nearby Pekan Rabu and
many historical place, proposing a
boutique hotel to cater the demand might
be benefited to the City Council of Alor
Setar and can be use for city
rejuvenation and conservation programs.

Remaining and enhance royal building in

this area may welcoming tourist and
visitor to explore more.

Reviving Proposal
Istana Kuning and Istana
Sepachandera
As emphasised by UNESCO, cultural
heritage is not limited to material
menifestations, such as monuments and
objects. It also includes ‘ intagible
heritage’, i.e. traditions or living
expression inherited from our ancestor
and passed on to our descendant, such as
oral tradition, performing arts, social
practices, ritual, festive event, and the
knowledge and skills to produce
traditional craft.
Backdated, In year 1979, the Malaysian
Secretariat of the UN International Year
of the Child (IYC), recommended that to
commemorate this historical occasion
meaningfully, something tangible should
be established which could benefit the
children of Malaysia, at all times. In
1989, at the Annual Children’s Day
Celebrations in Stadium Negara, DYMM
Raja Permaisuri Agong Tuanku Bainun
reiterated the need for such a centre.
In response to DYMM Raja Permaisuri
Agong Tuanku Bainun’s request, Pusat
Kreatif Kanak-Kanak Tuanku Bainun
(Pusat Kreatif) was established as a
centre where children and youth come
together to explore and develop their
creativity through Alam Kreatif; a
programme developed to enhance
cognitive skills, as well as develop their
potentials and inherent talents, be it in an
open space area or a fully-equipped
studio.
To revive this abandoned palace as a
kids club. Inspired by Pusat Kreatif
Kanak-Kanak Tuanku Bainun located at
Taman Tun Dr. Ismail. The club is
proposed to fully equipped with studios,
an experimental theatre and office suites.
The centre serves as a safe haven where
children and youth can come together to
explore and develop their creativity
through a wide variety of programmes
designed to enhance cognitive skills.
The centre is a playground of self-
discovery, where learning is fun and
children may develop moral and ethical
values - a caring nature will be a way of
life. A same approach then to be
proposed at Istana Kuning and Istana
Sepachandera. At Istana Sepachandera
there have a existing classrooms and
administrative offices. All classroom
units shall refurbish to room the
participant in every program organized
here in future. The program include
culture and heritage conservation, lesson
and learning activities.
While Istana Sepachandera formerly is a
school sponsored by private bodies
before left unhabituated and being ignore
for several years. By reviving it back as
a education centre is believe attract
tourist and local. We can expose kids in
their young ages and reminding them
about the Kedah Royal families and
cultural heritage such as music and
traditional dances.

giving a different perspective to this
area.

RIUH in Bangsar often teams up with

urbanscapes for an epic event at a
heritage venue. APW itself is actually an
old building that used to be Art Printing
Works building at Jalan Riong.
