KOSTT - Transmission, System and Market Operator

• Planning, developing, maintaining and operating the Kosovan


Electricity Transmission System;
• Providing non-discriminatory Third Party Access;
• Operating the New Electricity market;
• Promoting efficiency in the implementation of Market Rules;
• Efficient implementation and management of Balancing and
Settlement provided for by the Market Rules;
• Providing conditions that promote competition within Kosova;
• Working with neighboring TSOs for the benefit of Kosova and the
region;

KOSTT is the owner of the High Voltage Power Transmission System.

The High Voltage Power Transmission System consists of:

OVERHEAD POWER LINES


• 5 lines 400kV – 181.4 km
• 15 lines 220kV - 361.8 km
• 38 lines 110kV – 643.5 km

SUBSTATIONS
• 1 Substation 400/220 kV of transformer capacity 1200 MVA
• 3 Substation 220/110 kV of transformer capacity 1000 MVA
• 1 Switching substation 220kV
• 1 Substation 220/35/10 kV only 220kV bays
• 31 Substation 110/(35 or 10) kV only 110kV bays

The electricity in the Kosova Power


System is generated from:
• 96.8% Lignite Thermal Power Plants
• 3.2 % Hydro Power Plants

• Transmission investment opportunity to secure access


rights to other regions;

• Local transmission investment also required to support


demand growth;

• Early discussions with KOSTT necessary for


connection solution to TPP Kosova B switch yard.
Electricity Market and Regulatory Environment
• The market place is on the transmission network;
• The SO manages physical flows;
• The MO manages it commercially these flows;
• All necessary liberal market codes are in place (Grid Code, Market
Rules etc.);
• KOSTT is in process of being recognised in the Region and is a
strong supporter of inter-regional trade;
• KOSTT is actively being participating in all Athens Processes;
• KOSTT is required to, and does, support competition in generation,
supply and regional trade;
• KOSTT is strong supporter of new generation;
