THE CALL OF

GOD
Romans 8:28
And we know that in all things God
works for the good of those who love
him, who have been called according
to his purpose.
DEFINITION:
CALL (KALEO – GREEK)
 invited or called, specifically in reference to the call of
God.
THE CALL OF GOD
 It is a personal invitation of God in accordance to His
purpose.
PURPOSE
 Protesis, Greek
 Pro means before and tesis means place.
 To have a plan of action that is deliberate, anticipated
and intentional to meet a specific result.
KINDS OF CALLING
• General Calling (Matthew 28:19-20)
 The mandate Christ has given to each
believer – The Great Commission
 This godly mandate tells us we are
called to go and make disciples of all
nations, to baptize them in the Name of
the Father, and of the Son and of the
Holy Spirit & to teach them to obey the
commandments of God.
KINDS OF CALLING
• Specific Calling
(Exodus 3:10)
 This is the specific
individual calling for
every believer.
 This is where in the
body of Christ could we
be effectively used.
 It is being actively
involve in a particular
ministry of the church.

CHARACTERISTICS
OF THE CALL
Romans 8:28-30
[28] And we know that in all things
God works for the good of those who
love him, who have been called
according to his purpose. [29] For
those God foreknew he also
predestined to be conformed to the
likeness of his Son, that he might be
the firstborn among many brothers.
[30] And those he predestined, he also
called; those he called, he also
justified; those he justified, he also
glorified.
THE CHARACTERISTICS OF A CALL

• It is personal v.29
“..foreknew..”
• It is persistent v.29 & 30
“..predestined..”
• It is irrevocable v.28
“..purpose..”
THE ATTITUDE OF THE
CALLED
• It can be hot like Paul
• It can be lukewarm like
Moses before he answered
the call.
• It can be cold like Jonah
HINDRANCES TO THE
FULFILLMENT OF THE CALL
• Low Self-esteem. (Gideon on Judges 6)
 A feeling of not being able to do something.
 To doubt God and one’s self.
• Not recognizing the voice of God. (1 Samuel 3:1-14)
 To believe that man made the call.
 Samuel thought Eli was calling him.
• Fear (1 Samuel 3:15)
 Samuel had fear to tell Eli what God told him.
• Excuses (Exodus 3:3-23)
 The excuses of Moses.
THE CORRECT ATTITUDE
• The attitude of Isaiah and Paul.
Isaiah 6:8 and Acts 9
