WHAT IS AI?

• Artificial intelligence (AI) is truly a revolutionary feat of computer

science, set to become a core component of all modern software
over the coming years and decades.
• AI refers to computational tools that are able to substitute for
human intelligence in the performance of certain tasks. This
technology is currently advancing at a breakneck pace, much like
the exponential growth experienced by database technology in
the late twentieth century.
HISTORY OF AI
• Designed by Newell and Simon in 1955 it may be
considered the first AI program.
• The term artificial intelligence was first coined by John
McCarthy in 1956 when he held the first academic
conference on the subject. But the journey to understand
if machines can truly think began much before that.
• John McCarthy, an American computer scientist pioneer
and inventor, was known as the father of Artificial
Intelligence (AI) after playing a seminal role in defining
the field devoted to the development of intelligent
machines.

TYPES OF AI

• Artificial Narrow Intelligence ( ANI )

• Artificial General Intelligence ( AGI )
• Artificial Super Intelligence ( ASI )
ARTIFICIAL NARROW INTELLIGENCE
(ANI)
• Artificial narrow intelligence (ANI or narrow AI) refers to a computer's ability to perform a
single task extremely well, such as crawling a webpage or playing chess. The rapidly
growing field of bots serves as an excellent example of narrow AI at work. In its simplest
form, a bot is a piece of software than can run automated tasks that are generally simple and
repetitive in nature.
• Bots can provide answers to questions like, "What's the weather going to be like today?"
"Where should I go for lunch?" "How many visitors came to our website last week?" and so
on. Bots pull data from larger systems and deliver just the answer you're looking for –
whether it's from a weather site, a restaurant recommendation engine, or a web analytics
platform.
• EXAMPLES : Google translate, Alexa, Siri etc.
ARTIFICIAL GENERAL
INTELLIGENCE
• Artificial general intelligence (AGI) is the intelligence of a machine that can understand or
learn any intellectual task that a human being can. It is a primary goal of some artificial
intelligence research and a common topic in science fiction and futures studies
• Best example is the robot.
Artificial super intelligence
• Artificial superintelligence goes a step beyond, and posits a world in which a computer’s
cognitive ability is superior to a human’s.
• People think this can pose a threat to man kind but that’s still remains a mystery! Its still
hypothetical and fictional.
AI EVOLUTION
From Turing to John Mccarthy to google……..

In the past few years, AI evolved into a powerful tool

that enables machines to think and act like humans.
Moreover, it has garnered focus from tech companies
around the world and is considered as the next
significant technological shift after the evolution in
mobile and cloud platforms. Some even call it the
fourth industrial revolution. Forbes states, “By 2020,
businesses that use AI and related technologies like
machine learning and deep learning to uncover new
business insights will take $1.2 trillion each year from
competitors that don’t employ these technologies.”

DEEP LEARNING vs MACHINE LEARNING vs
AI
DEEP LEARNING MACHINE LEARNING AI
• Is the process of using Artificial Neural • Practice of getting machines to make • Represents Simulated intelligence in
Networks to solve complex problems decisions without being programmed machines. It is an area of computer
science
• Originated around 2008 • Originated around 1970
• Initially originated around 1950
• Deep learning is the subset of AI, Machine • Machine learning is the subset of AI and
learning and data science Data science • AI is subset of data science. A vast field
and currently the hot topic.
• Aim is to build neural networks • Aim is to make machine learn
that automatically discover through data so they can solve • Aim is to build machine which
patterns for feature detection problems. Aim is to extend are capable to think like
accuracy. humans.
EXPECTATIONS FROM AI
• Virtual Agents
• Many businesses, large and small have begun to deploy AI-powered chatbots in their business and
organizations to answer website visitors’ questions, help customers check out and qualify sales leads etc.
• Speech Recognition
• Amazon’s Alexa became a big hit. Voice recognition skills to assist people control everything in their
homes. The new -year will see more companies and products adopting speech recognition technologies.
• Smart Recommendations
• Whenever an online shopping is done you will be inundated with recommendations based on items you
have previously purchased or browsed.
• Image Recognition
• AI has made it possible to teach computers how to see, acquire, process and analyse data from visual
sources! Expect image recognition to detect license plates, diagnose diseases, and allow for photo
analysis to complete payments or other verifications.
AI LIMITATIONS
• Explainable AI to dominate demand
• As Forrester analysts write, when it comes to explainability and auditability, not all AI is created
equal..
• Rediscovering and bringing human expertise back into the loop
• Machine Learning is exceptional at data analysis to create models that recognize patterns, automate
decisions, and make predictions it lacks in human reasoning abilities.
• AI to create the rise in digital workforce
• Robotic process automation (RPA) will create the new digital labour force. Till now, firms have been
treating emerging technologies distinctly; including RPA for automation and AI for intelligence.
• Data doldrums will continue to be a difficult proposition
• The No. 1 challenge for AI adopters is quality data, regardless of the state of AI adoptability an
individual or organization is in.
AI-COLLABORATION AND NOT
COEXISTANCE
• We firmly believe that innovation around and with Artificial Intelligence
cannot be created in silence, but only together: Starting with the
collaboration in diverse teams, through colorful mixed panels such as
those at the Research Summit, to the cooperation of science and practice.

• The goal is distant but achievable!!!

2019 THE YEAR FOR
GERMANY
• Additionally, the Cyber Valley of Germany is luring a lot of international interest and
investment.
• The German Federal Government pursues 14 goals with its national AI strategy.
“Artificial Intelligence (AI) made in Germany” is to become a globally recognized seal
of quality. Germany should expand its strong position in industry 4.0 and become a
leader in AI applications in this area.
• The country is well known for its clockwork efficiency and is sufficiently versed in
technical know-how. Germany is all set to blend its tradition with technology
innovations. The country is self-assured to possess a leadership in robotics, autonomous
vehicles and quantum computing.
LACK OF VIABLE AI BUISNESS
MODELS IN GERMANY
• With this research base and Germany’s strong engineering skills , they are actually
predestined to develop innovative AI solutions and to contribute to the advance of the
technology. But at the moment they are barely using this potential, as the Germans are too
seldom able to bring together science and practice.
• What Germans are not really able to do, has already been achieved elsewhere, namely in
China and the USA. This is where research and the development of sustainable business
models come together, not least due to billions invested in the AI market.
PORSCHE DIGITAL LAB
• The moto at the Porsche Digital Lab in Berlin is to bring together an interdisciplinary, diverse team
of UX designers and analysts, data scientists, physicists and developers.
• This diversity enables us to go completely new ways in the testing of technologies and to jointly
develop innovative solutions.
• Porsche is also a partner of the Cyber Valley in Tübingen, a research cooperation that aims to better
connect knowledge from science and industry.
• The Lab identifies and tests the information technologies of the future from its location right on the
banks of the Spree.
• Porsche Lab can take innovations from the fields of big data and machine learning, micro
services and cloud technologies, Industry 4.0 and the Internet of Things, and turn them into
practical solutions. Their tasks range from trend scouting and ideation to building IT
prototypes.
NATIONAL AI STRATEGY OF
GERMANY
• Artificial Intelligence (AI) made in Germany” is to become a globally recognized seal of
quality.
• Germany should expand its strong position in industry 4.0 and become a leader in AI
applications in this area. The strong German midmarket should also benefit from AI
applications.
• Germany is to become an attractive location for the world’s brightest AI minds.
• The focus should always be on the benefits of AI for citizens.
• In Germany, data are to be used exclusively for the benefit of society, the environment,
the economy and the state.
