We all you and I our workmates are responsible for staying safe and working in safe
environment .

“Duty of care means each employee is required to act responsibly to ensure


personal safety , safety of others and safety of equipments. “

Risk Management:

What is Risk management?

To identify and control the hazards before commencing the work.

You simply take a specific risk and assess the likelihood of it occurring and consequences it
involves, then it is very easy to determine if risk is high, moderate or low:

Pinch point or nip points: Major hazard people working around conveyors

• Being caught in pinch point results in severe
injuries or fatality.

Automatic equipment starts:

• Protect yourself using correct isolation procedures.


• If you are not sure isolation is required contact your supervisor for assistance and advice.

Electrical energy hazards:

• Electrical energy hazard has the potential to cause serious injury or damage to equipment.
• Only trained and authorized personnel are permitted to work on electrical components.
• Correct isolation procedure must be followed when working on equipment.

Mechanical energy hazards:

• Ensure all guarding is securely in place on running equipment .


• Remain “out of line of fire” of potential energy release.
• Correct isolation procedure must be followed when working on equipment.

• Never work on running conveyor.


• Correct site isolation procedure must be followed all time.
• Ensure you are instructed in correct procedures for

House keeping:

All personnel are responsible for house keeping which will improve and maintain safety in work area.

Poor House keeping creates number of hazards including Trip, slip , fall hazards, fire hazards and potential
to damage tool and equipments.

• Keep access -ways free of


tools,equipments,rubbish and
rollup and stow hoses, and leads
when they are not in use.

• Clean up spills immediately

Don’t Use a shovel , hue or any other hand tool to clean
material buildup while Belt is running.

Conveyor Pull chords and switches are for your safety
,Keep Them clean and check them periodically.
Potential failures of pull chord:

• Spillage around switches .

• Broken pull chord or excess


slag in chord.

Appropriate PPE should be worn.


Avoid wearing loose fitting PPE as it may get
caught in conveyor.

Safety Tips

Working Smart

• Follow the procedure of LOTOTO before working, cleaning, maintaining a Conveyor.


• A hard hat ,safety glasses, dust mask, and steel-toes should be worn when in the area of
the conveyor.
• Loose or bulky clothing must not be worn. ( loose vests, scarves, bandana, etc.)
• Return idler safety: Never try to fix, clean, or adjust while the belt is running.
• Don’t Use a shovel , hue or any other hand tool to clean material buildup while Belt is
running.
• A clean safe walk way means safe walking. Keep Conveyor walk ways clean , and traverse
conveyors only at Crossovers.
• Don’t clean running belt .
• Don’t cross over or ride on operating Belt.
• If you are working near a stopped belt ,and a stat-up warning is given STOP what your
doing and get clear

Hazards while working on Belt conveyor

As clear from above table the leading cause of Belt conveyor accidents is trying to
clean or remove material sticking to the roller or pulley while belt is running.
