INTRODUCTION
 An energy audit is a systematic control and analysis of the use and consumption of
energy by a building , facility, organization or system .

 It aims to identify energy flow together with defining the possibilities of improving
energy efficiency .
OBJECTIVES
1. Get reliable knowledge of energy consumption
2. Optimize power supply
3. Identify energy costs
4. Eliminate energy losses
5. Detect and assess saving opportunities and improving energy efficiency
6. Analyze the possibility of using renewable energy
BACKGROUND/HISTORY
 The University of Guyana(UG) was established in the year 1963.
 The faculty of Technology was established in the year of 1969.
 The faculty of Engineering and Technology was renovated in 2015 which included the change of the
entire electrical system .
 Later , lights switches equipped with a motion sensor were installed in 2017.
Energy Audit process
Defining scope of energy audit, this refers to which systems will be
investigated and the depth of the investigation

Conducting the
initial visit of the
facility.

Collecting building information, e.g. floor area, building orientation,

equipment design condition.

Conducting site inspection & measurement to identify

means for improvement.

Analyzing data collected

Recommending the improvement actions and

measures
LITERATURE REVIEW

 What is Energy ?

 What is an energy audit ?

LITERATURE REVIEW
Standard Air Conditioning Unit vs Inverter Air Conditioning Unit.
The Inverter technology (DC) is the latest evolution of technology concerning the electro motors
of the compressors.
LITERATURE REVIEW
Fluorescent lighting vs LED lighting
 LED lights, or light emitting diodes, light up when electrical currents pass through the
microchip in the light.
 Fluorescent lighting comes in two primary types: tube lighting and CFL (compact fluorescent
lighting).
RESULTS
 Assumptions for TC1-TC9

 One smartphone per receptacle

 One laptop per receptacle
 One projector is used in each room
 Smart phone capacity
 Laptop battery capacity
 Classes six days per week

DISCUSSION

 The first floor consists of two office spaces and five classrooms.
 The top floor consists of the boardroom, the Architecture studio and several office
spaces.
 The lighting system is usually utilized at later hours of the day.
 The computer laboratory utilizes the most energy with two working AC units.
 The staff room also contributes to the total energy consumption of 310,745 wH.
RECOMMENDATIONS
1. Thermal insulation
2. Light insulation
3. Light sensors
4. Microcontroller
5. Solar energy systems
6. Florescent to LED
CONCLUSION

 Energy audit is important since it gives technical and economic information that
directly or indirectly affects energy consumption in a building.
 This information is useful in the reduction of energy cost by optimizing energy
consumption.
 Increase the service life of equipment
 The information showed that AC units consumed the most energy while televisions
consumed the least.
