Para la construcción de frases negativas en simple past, el verbo did se usa como verbo
auxiliar.

El verbo principal no se conjuga en el pasado, ya que el auxiliar ya indica el tiempo.

La estructura de la oración es la siguiente:

Sujeto + did + not + verbo principal + complemento

Ex.:

- She did not like the English teacher. – (A ella no le gustaba el profesor de inglés.)

- The teacher didn’t (did not) wait for the students. – (La maestra no esperó a los estudiantes.)

- Sorry but I didn’t (did not) understand your e-mail. - (Lo sentimos, pero no entendí tu
correo electrónico.)

- We didn’t (did not) know that beach. - (Nosotros no conocíamos esa playa.)

- They didn’t (did not) want to live in that apartment. - (No querían vivir en ese
departamento.)
Interrogative form
Simple past

Como en el negativo, did es el verbo auxiliar utilizado para frases interrogativas en simple
past.

Vea la estructura a continuación:

Did + subject + verbo principal + complemento

P.S: solo el verbo auxiliar (did) se conjuga en simple past. No es necesario conjugar el verbo
principal.
Ex.:

- Did she like the English teacher? – (¿Le gustaba la profesora de inglés?)

- Did he wash his car last week? – (¿Lavó su auto la última semana?)

- Did the boy pay for the apple? - (¿Pagó el niño por la manzana?)

- Did she start to read that book? - (¿Ella comenzó a leer ese libro?

- Did they play soccer? - (¿Ellos jugaron futbol?)
