RELATIONSHIP
THOUGH, ALTHOUGH, EVEN THOUGH
CONCESSIVE RELATIONSHIP

 Combination of two/more clauses that implies a


contrast between circumstances , Though,
Although, even though, in spite of , or despite
are conjunctions for the combination.
 They Are practically the same meaning :

 THOUGH = ALTHOUGH = EVEN THOUGH 

THOUGH is a little less formal than ALTHOUGH.


EVEN THOUGH’’ add the most force to concession/
is a stronger form of ‘’ ALTHOUGH
THOUGH
PATTERN:
 Main clause + Though + Subject +Verb + ….
 Though + Subject + Verb + … , Main clause

Examples:
1. I will get through it though it is hard. (Aku
akan berhasil melewatinya walaupun sulit)

2. We kept playing football though it rained hard.


(Kami terus bermain bola walaupun hujan deras).

3. He didn’t pass the exam though he had studied


hard. (Dia tidak lulus ujian walaupun dia telah
belajar dengan tekun).
WITH Although/eventhough
1. I will get through it although/even though it is
hard. (Aku akan berhasil melewatinya walaupun
sulit).

2. We kept playing football although/even


though it rained hard. . (Kami terus bermain
bola walaupun hujan deras).

3. He didn’t pass the exam although/even


though he had studied hard. (Dia tidak lulus
ujian walaupun dia telah belajar dengan tekun).
Although
Examples:

1. We enjoyed our picnic although it rained all


day.
2. Although she studied very hard, she didn’t
manage to pass the exam.
3. The picnic was great although the service
wasn’t very nice.
Even though

Even though sama struktur penggunaannya


dengan although, hanya saja even though
lebih kuat.
Example :
1. I decided to buy the car even though we
didn’t really have enough money
2. He keep making that annoying noise even
though I’ve asked him to stop twice.
Preposition “despite” and “in spite of”

 Main clause + despite + noun/NP/ V-ing


Main clause + in spite of + noun/NP/V-ing

OR

 Despite + noun/NP/V-ing, main clause.


In spite of + noun/NP/V-ing, main clause.
EXAMPLES:
DESPITE
1. I will get through it despite the fact that it is
hard. (Aku akan berhasil melewatinya walaupun
faktanya sulit).

2. We kept playing football despite the hard rain.


(Kami terus bermain bola walaupun hujan deras.)

3. He didn’t pass the exam despite his hard study.


(Dia tidak lulus ujian walaupun belajarnya
tekun).
EXAMPLES:
In spite of

1. I will get through it in spite of the fact that it


is hard
2. We kept playing football in spite of the hard
rain.
3. He didn’t pass the exam in spite of his hard
study.
USED TO ,BE USED TO = BE ACCUSTOMED TO
CONTRUCTION WITH ‘USED TO ’
USED TO, Be Used To = be accustomed
(terbiasa,biasa)
 Used to Express activities in past
time but no longer happen .

S + BE USED TO + Gerund/Noun…
Be accustomed to, get used to, become accustomed
(menjadi terbiasa)

S +BE Accustomed To + GERUND +NOUN …

S + GET USED TO + GERUND +NOUN …


S + Become Accustomed + GERUND +NOUN …


Example:

1. I Used to swim on the river when I was young


2. I was used to swimming on the river when I
was young
3. I was accustomed to swimming on the river
when I was young ( Aku Terbiasa/biasa
berenang di sungai ketika aku kecil)
4. He has get used to living in poverty
5. He has to become accustomed to living in
poverty (dia harus menjadi
terbiasa(membiasakan diri ) hidup dalam
kemiskinan
