Way of Acquiring
Knowledge and
Solving Problems
Scientific
Method
 series of steps that
are used to
investigate a natural
occurrence.
Scientific Method
1. Identify the Problem
2. Collect Information
3. Formulate a Hypothesis
4. Experiment
5. Collect and Analyze Results
6. Conclusion
7. Communicate the Results
1. Identify the Problem
Develop a question or
problem that can be solved
through experimentation.

Example:
Does the type of soil affect
seed’s germination and its
growth?
2. Formulate a Hypothesis
Hypothesis, “educated guess”
Predict a possible answer to
the problem or question.
Example:
If a plant is planted in a
______________, then plant will
germinate faster.
3. Experiment
Develop and follow a procedure
to prove your hypothesis if it is
correct or wrong.
The outcome must be
measurable and quantifiable.
4. Collect and Analyze Results
record your observations,
measurements, or
information from
experiment.
Like height of plants and
number of leaves.
5. Conclusion
Include a statement that
accepts or rejects the
hypothesis.
Make recommendations for
further study and possible
improvements to the
procedure.
5. Conclusion(Cont.)
Example:
 Base on the data collected, we conclude
that some of our hypothesis are correct.
 Base on the data collected, we conclude
that our hypothesis are all correct.
We suggest to used _______ soil in planting
because seeds germinate faster on it. We
also recommend to use _________ soil because
plants grow faster on it. We encourage
others to try the experiment in different
environment conditions.
6. Communicate the Results
present the project to an
audience.
Expect questions from the
audience.
Summary!
Give the seven steps of scientific
method in order. Give description for
its method .

1. Identify the Problem

2. Formulate a Hypothesis
3. Experiment
4. Collect and Analyze Results
5. Conclusion
6. Communicate the Results
For the next meeting…

Bring the following materials:

 Three Containers
 Loom Soil
 Clay Soil
 Sand
 Mongo Seeds
Let ’s Apply!
Mac wants to plant vegetables
but he don’t know what soil is
the best for vegetables. Your next
task is to figure out the best soil
for Mac’s vegetables. Do this by
doing the next experiment!
Instructions:
1.Put the loom soil, clay soil and sand
in three separate containers.
2.Put three mongo seeds in each
container. Water the plants equally
and place them in same places.
3.Observe the observation of the
plants for 7 days and record your
observations in your data sheet.
4.Share your outputs to the class.
Criteria:
Written Output =4
Presentation =3
Discipline =2__________
TOTAL =10 points
***QUIZ***
Instructions:
Arrange the following in correct
order. Use numbers 1-7.

_______ Experiment
_______ Communicate the Results
_______ Formulate a Hypothesis
