• The paper presents research on the behavior of bank protection which can be found
in the erodible river bed. Research conducted during the 18 years showed the
vulnerability of the work "hard" (reinforced concrete and stone pitching) located in
the erodible river beds. Studies and research have been conducted where the
Timișești-Iași pipeline adduction undercross the river. The research and analysis of
morphological alteration of the riverbed, given by flash floods during the period of
study have indicated the establishment of a special type of elastic bank protection.
The construction is made of elastic geo-containers (mattresses) filled with ballast. The
elastic type bank protection was designed and tested for site conditions on the
Moldova River.

Study area characteristics and methodology of research

In the undercrossing main features of the river Moldova are: length of the watercourse,
160 km; catchment area, 3,567 km2; analyzed the average slope of 1.30‰
