Hello!
Assalamu ‘alaikum WarahmatullahiWabarakatuh!
Ladies and gentlemen ! I am Drs. H. Ahdi
Makmur, M.Ag. Ph.D, a lecturer of Academic
Writing subject. Because of the time, I would like
to inform you our topics of discussion or a
syllabus. Axactly they shoud be discussed in class,
but they have to be given via internet or daring.
You have to prepare an Android HP with some
programs, like WA and Google meet.
 The problem is about whether you have the facilities
or not, the signal networks, remote places, etc. If not,
you need help from your friend/s who has/have. Our
discussion, of course, is not only to read the
information/instructions, to see and understand the
examples, but also to do assignments/to write based on
the instruction, than to send it/them to me via WA. The
final activity is having test, mid and final one. One in a
while, we learn through Geogle Meet/Gmail, so you
have email code, like mine (ahdimakmur@gmail.com). If
no Covid 19 pandemy at all, we would learn in class, at
the end of this semester (December).

• Review/Synopsis/Report
• Final test
• Paraphrase means rewriting a sentence or a paragraph by changing the
word(using synonym), the clauses, its gramatical structure (active to passive or
vice verse, using different patterns), but still keep the same meaning, the idea of
the previous sentence, or the main idea of the previous paragraph).
• Summary means paraphrasing of a paragraph or paragraphs of a piece of writing
like text(s) in the article, in part(s) or chapter(s) of the book. It might be
difefernt words, clauses , structures, but te same idea. Thus, no idea from the
writer who does the summary/ies. When he/she is writing the summary.
• Synthesis means summarizing and responding . That is a combination of two.
First, he/she should write the summary. Second, he/she does the response of
masage or opinion in the text. So, the are the original opinion from the writer as
well as the opinion from who does the synthesis.which showing agree or
disagree statements.
• Abstract is a short piece of writing , summarizing of the content of the article of
theisi. It usually contents introduction, the problems , methods, conclusion, and
key words of a research.. Thus, it might be an abstract of article or a book .
• Article, Termpaper, Thesis. Review, are all kinds of scintific writing. They
are different with popular writing. Before writing , we have to do research.
Thus, we have to distinguish between research and opinion article. For
termpaper (makalah), we write it based on research or only through
reading article, books or other sources of data/information. Otherwise,
Thesis is mostly written based on research in the field (by interview, by
questionairre, or by documentary). Last is Review, that is, a written
analysis of an article or a book by presenting the information written in
both (article or book) following by the oponion of who writes the review.

discussed in the following lectures to come.
