MACHINERY USED IN MINING ACTIVITY

CHECK VALVE
(Válvula de Retención)
Check valves are two-port valves, meaning they have two
openings in the body, one for fluid to enter and the other for fluid
to leave. There are various types of check valves used in a wide
variety of applications. Check valves are often part of common
household items.
EXCAVATOR
(Excavadora)

Excavators are heavy construction equipment consisting of a

boom, dipper (or stick), bucket and cab on a rotating platform
known as the "house". The house sits atop an undercarriage
with tracks or wheels. They are a natural progression from the
steam shovels and often mistakenly called power shovels
OFF HIGHWAY TRUCK
(Camión minero)

OFF HIGHWAY TRUCK are off-highway, rigid dump

truck specifically engineered for use in high-production
mining and heavy-duty construction environments. Haul
trucks are also used for transporting construction
equipment from job site to job site. Some are multi-axle in
order to support the equipment that is being hauled.
■ HYDRAULIC MINING SHOVEL (pala de minería hidráulica)

The hydraulic shovel is a machine that is used both in

mining operations and in civil works. Smaller equipment
is used for trenching, demolition of structures, etc.
DRAGLINE
(Draga)

Draglines fall into two broad categories: those

that are based on standard, lifting cranes, and
the heavy units which have to be built on-site.
Most crawler cranes, with an added winch drum
on the front, can act as a dragline
LOW-BED TRUCK
(Cama baja)
LOW-BED in western Canada and South Africa or float in
Australia and eastern Canada) is a semi-trailer with two drops in
deck height: one right after the gooseneck and one right before
the wheels.
 JAW CRUSHER
(Trituradora de mandíbulas)
A crusher is a machine designed to reduce large rocks into
smaller rocks, gravel, sand or rock dust. Crushers may be used
to reduce the size, or change the form, of waste materials so
they can be more easily disposed of or recycled, or to reduce the
size of a solid mix of raw materials (as in rock ore), so that
pieces of different composition can be differentiated.
 CONVEYOR
(Faja transportadora)

A conveyor belt is the carrying medium of a belt conveyor

system (often shortened to belt conveyor). A belt conveyor
system is one of many types of conveyor systems.
 Ore body
(Yacimiento mineral)

ORE BODY is a mineral deposit containing a metal

or other valuable resources in a cost-competitive
concentration. It is usually used in the context of a
mineral deposit from which it is convenient to
extract its metallic component. The deposits are
exploited by mining in the case of solid mineral
deposits (such as iron or coal) and extraction wells in
case of fluids (such as oil, gas or brines).
