Definition of Bilingualism

Definitions of bilingualism range from a minimal


proficiency in two languages, to an advanced level
of proficiency which allows the speaker to
function and appear as a native-like speaker of
two languages.

1. Compound Bilingualism
Bilingualism indicating that the ability to speak one language better than another
language proficiency.

2. Bilingualism coordinative / parallel.


Bilingualism is shown that the use of two languages equally well by an individual.

3. Bilingualism Sub-oordinatif (complex)


Bilingualism indicating that an individual at the time of wear often include B1 B2 or vice
versa.
COGNITION

Definition of Cognition

Cognition is a term referring to the mental processes


involved in gaining knowledge and comprehension.
Cognition is the umbrella term for your learning skills
—your ability to process information, reason,
remember, and relate.
The Element of Cognition

Concept Proposition Mental Image Schema


1. Concept
Mental category that groups objects, relations, activities, abstractions, or qualities
having common properties.
2. Proposition
A unit of meaning that is made up of concepts and expresses a single idea.

3. Mental Image
Representation that mirrors or resembles the thing it represents.
4. Schema
An integrated mental network of knowledge, beliefs and expectations concerning a
particular topic or aspect of the world.
Cognition Skill

Cognition skills are what separate the good learners from the so-so learners.
Here’s why:
• Without developed cognition skills, children fall behind because they
aren’t able to integrate new information as they are taught it.
• The sad truth is that most students move on to the next grade before they
have mastered the basic academic skills like reading, writing and math…
because they haven’t developed cognition skills.
CONCLUSION

From this material we get the conclusion Bilingualism is range from a minimal
proficiency in two languages, to an advanced level of proficiency which allows the
speaker to function and appear as a native-like speaker of two languages.
The division of bilingualism, there are 3 namely : Compound Bilingualism,
Bilingualism coordinative / parallel, Bilingualism Sub- oordinatif (complex).
Cognition is a term referring to the mental processes involved in gaining
knowledge and comprehension. Cognition is the umbrella term for your learning
skills your ability to process information, reason, remember, and relate. The
elements of cognition there are 4, namely : Concept , Proposition, Mental Image,
Schema.
