OSTARA?
The origins of the spring sabbat name.
Ostara, also known as Eostre, is the Germanic goddess of
spring and fertility. Out of all of the sabbats, Ostara is the
most well known in her connection to this sabbat and as to

her.

Aside from the obvious, there is a tale that pairs up with this

OSTARA?
The history of Ostara.
Ostara arrived on Earth one year to discover a bird with its
wings frozen. In an attempt to heal the bird who was no
longer able to fly, she turned it into a hare. She also gave it

the ability to lay colored eggs as a reminder of its previous
life. However, the hare could only do so on one day out of the
whole year. T IS
OSTA
There eventually was conflict between the hare (named
Lepus) and the goddess. In retaliation, Ostara sent the hare up
into the sky and is now what we know as the Lepus
constellation.

Ostara eventually grew to dislike the harsh actions she took,

but knew she couldn’t reverse it. So, she gave Lepus the
ability to come back to earth and lay his eggs one day out of
the year.

Did You Know?: Ostara is the sabbat that Christianity took
“inspiration” off of for a particular holiday that many of us
(religious or not) celebrate now.

We know it as Easter, the time in which the Easter Bunny
comes once a year to give kids candy, we gather as a family
to dye eggs, and some may even have a feast.

Easter is the Christian holiday all about the resurrection of
Jesus Christ after he was nailed on the cross and put in a
grave.

Sabbat celebration differences depending on where one lives.
Whenever the Northern Hemisphere celebrates Ostara, the
Southern Hemisphere celebrates Mabon.

Ostara is the celebration of the spring equinox. Therefore, it’s
held on the first day of spring. That day varies from year to
year, but in 2021 (the upcoming Ostara) the first day of spring
