1
 What is Cloud Computing???

 Cloud Computing is a style of computing in which dynamically

scalable and often virtualized resources are provided as a service over the
Internet.

 The key terms are virtualized and dynamically scalable.

2
 Amazon Elastic Cloud Computing(Amazon EC2) -

 The Billionaire Jeff Pezoss is the founder of Amazon.com.

 Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud (Amazon EC2) is a web service

that provides resizable compute capacity in the cloud. It is
designed to make web-scale computing easier for developers.

 Uses Xen Hypervisor for virtualization

 Allows Windows and Linux Virtual Machines (with many

flavors of Linux)

 Provides a number of options for memory and CPU

3
 Amazon EC2 Core Concepts -

 Amazon Machine Image

(AMI):

 Amazon Simple Storage

Service (Amazon S3):

 Amazon EC2 Functionality:

Amazon EC2 presents a true virtual computing environment, allowing
you to use web service interfaces to requisition machines for use, load them
with your custom application environment, manage your network's access
permissions, and run your image using as many or few systems as you desire.
4
 Get Started with EC2 -

 Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud (Amazon EC2) is a web service

that enables you to launch and manage Linux/UNIX and
Windows server instances in Amazon's data centers.

5
 Sign up for EC2 -

.
To sign up for Amazon EC2
Go to http://aws.amazon.com/ec2 and click Sign Up for Amazon EC2.

6
7
8
 Launch Instance -

1. Start the launch wizard:

a. From the AWS Management Console, click Sign in to the AWS Console
and log in with the email address and password you used when signing up for
Amazon EC2.

9
b. From the Amazon EC2 Console Dashboard, click Launch Instance to start the
Request Instances Wizard.

An Amazon Machine Image (AMI) contains all the information needed to create a new
instance of a server.

10
2. Choose an AMI:

After you select an AMI, the wizard steps to the Instance Details page. This is where
you control settings such as the number and size of instances to launch .
11
3. Create a key pair:

12
4. Create a Security Group:

14
13
5. Launch the Instance:

While it's launching -

After a short period -

14
6. Terminate Your Instance:

15
 Amazon EC2 Instances -

 Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud (Amazon EC2) provides the flexibility to

choose from a number of different instance types to meet your computing
needs. Each instance provides a predictable amount of dedicated compute
capacity and is charged per instance-hour consumed.

 Standard Instances:
 Small Instance (default)
 Large Instance
 Extra Large Instance

 High-CPU Instances:
 High-CPU Medium Instance
 High-CPU Extra Large Instance

16
17
 Amazon EC2 Instances -

 Selecting Instance Types

 I/O Performance

 Using Amazon EC2 to Run Instances

 Paying for What You Use

18
Elastic Cloud computing-
an internet based computing where software, shared resources and
information are served to devices such as computers.

 The system is divided into two sections-

 Front end:
The front end of the Elastic Cloud Computing system comprises the
client’s device (it may be computer network) and some applications are
needed for accessing the Elastic Cloud Computing system.

 Back end:
In Elastic Cloud Computing back end is cloud itself .A central server is
established which is used for administering the whole system. It is also
used for monitoring client’s demand as well as traffic to ensure that
everything of system runs without any problem. it uses a software known
termed as middleware. Middleware allow computers that are connected
on network to make communication with each other.

19
 Server Architecture -
It consist of
 Xen hypervisor:
provides an abstraction layer between the hardware and the virtual OS so
that the distribution of the resources and the processing is well managed.

 Enomalism server management system:

used for management of the infrastructure platform.

20
 Issues with Cloud -

 Privacy

 Legal

 Security

 Availability and Performance

 Sustainability and siting

21
 Service Highlights -

 Elastic

 Completely Controlled

 Designed for use with other Amazon Web Services

 Reliable

 Storage

 Secure

 Inexpensive

22
 Applications -
 Salesforce.com

 Skype

 BitTorrent

23
 Advantages of using Elastic Cloud Computing-
 3 data centers

 Infrastructure on demand

 Flexibility

 Scalability

 Only pay for what you use

 Relatively inexpensive depending on needs

 Dedicated IP address

 No system management overhead

24
 Disadvantages of using Elastic Cloud Computing-

 Physical data storage is not controlled by the owner of the

data

 No static IP addresses.

 Dependent on internet connection

25
 Conclusion -

 Elastic Cloud Computing is a powerful new abstraction for large scale

data processing systems which is scalable, reliable and available.

 Elastic Cloud Computing services can also grow and shrink according
to need.

 Elastic Cloud Computing is particularly valuable to small and medium

businesses, where effective and affordable IT tools are critical to helping
them become more productive without spending lots of money on in-house
resources and technical equipment.

 Also it is a new emerging architecture needed to expand the Internet to

become the computing platform of the future.
