 Ce este Războiul din Siria?

Războiul civil sirian este un conflict

violent în curs de desfășurare în Siria între
insurgenții pro-democrați și regimul
dinastic de lungă durată al președintelui
sirian Bashar al-Assad. Războiul a fost o
sursă de instabilitate semnificativă în
Orientul Mijlociu începând cu anul 2011,
iar strămutarea civilă și exodul refugiaților
care a rezultat constituie una dintre cele
mai grave crize umanitare din istoria
modernă.
 Cum a început?
Din 2006 până în 2010, Siria a suferit cea mai
gravă secetă din istoria modernă. Efectele
combinate ale secetei și ale dezechilibrului
economic preexistent sub regimul Assad au
contribuit la primele proteste nonviolente pro-
reformă, în 2011, provocând valul de revolte
numite Primăvara Arabă. Diviziunile dintre
majoritatea sunnită a țării și elita alawită de la
conducere au fost, de asemenea, un factor
declanșator. Reprimarea dură militară a
regimului a stârnit și mai multe tensiuni, iar
până în septembrie 2011 protestele pașnice
deveniseră rebeliuni armate.
 Armele chimice au fost sau nu folosite?
În 2012, regimul președintelui sirian Bashar al-
Assad a confirmat pentru prima dată deținerea unui
arsenal de arme chimice. Siria a amenințat că va
desfășura arme chimice împotriva agresorilor
străini, dar a subliniat că nu le va folosi niciodată
asupra civililor. Din 2012, însă, numeroase
investigații multinaționale au descoperit atacuri cu
arme chimice siriene care au vizat civili sirieni.
Cel mai mortal a avut loc în 2013, în suburbia
Damascului Ghouta. Guvernul sirian neagă cu tărie
că a folosit vreo armă chimice.
 Urmările războiului
De la începutul său în 2011, războiul civil sirian a
generat cea mai mare populație de refugiați din lume,
constituind peste o treime din populația lor globală. În
2018, Națiunile Unite au înregistrat 6,7 milioane de
refugiați sirieni, aproape 40% din populația Siriei în
acel an. În Siriei, aproximativ 6,5 milioane de civili au
fost strămutați. În 2018 s-a raportat că aproximativ
400.000 de oameni au fost uciși în războiul civil sirian
început din 2011. Din cauza deteriorării condiților de
trăi, s-au declanșat epidemii de febra tifoidă, hepatită,
dizenterie, turbeculoza și difterie. Persecuțiile
religioase au fost la ordinea zilei - peste 40 000 de
alawiti au fost uciși și mulți sirieni creștini au fugit din
țară. Mai multe organizații pentru drepturile omului au
numit Războiul Civil din Siria cea mai gravă criză
umanitară a secolului XXI.
