A. Great eastern especially Indian thinkers.
Aurobindo, Sri - Building of human mind and spirit.
Gandhi, M.K. - All round drawing out of the best.
Krishnamurti, J -Helping the individual to follower greatly in love and wisdom.
Nanak, Gruru- Enabling an individual to win victory over the five victory's; lust,
anger, greed, infatuation and ego.
> Upanishad, Brihadarsa Nayak -Leading from the unreal to the real. From darkness to
light, from death to immortality.
B. Great western thinkers.
Aristotle- Creation of a sound mind in a sound body.
Montaigne- Cultivating manners, b/r, and judgment than bare and mere liberal
learning.
> Socrates- Dispelling error and discovering truth.
> Whitehead- Learning to be an assimilation of general ideas which could be applied
to life.

Latin words which are explained as under;
+ Education- the act of teaching
+ Educere- to lead out or tom draw out.
+ Educare- to bring up, to train, to nourish.
+ Educo -to lead forth, to extract out.
Thus education implies;
Act of drawing out.
Act of extracting out
Act of leading forth/out.
Act of teaching/training.

thinking, feeling and acting. Education helps students to acquire ideas, habits, attitudes, interests, ways of
thinking and professional skills, which they did not have b/4.
Education is also defined as an orderly, deliberate, and sustained effort to transmit or develop knowledge,
concepts, skills, attitudes or habits. It takes place in a variety of setting and through the efforts of many d/t
individuals. The setting include schools and universities (secular or religious), youth org’ns such as boy and
girl scouts, museums, through radio and television, in homes e.t.c
1 Generally speaking education could be
1. Formal-Is that which is consciously and deliberately planned for modification of b/r with the particular end
in view. E.g. school, college, church, home in the past, adult school on a regular basis.
2. Non-formal-Is an alternative arrangement of education for those who can not attend formal institution.
E.g. adult and social education centers, TV persons specially on educational programs, e.t.c
3. Informal education- Is not pre- planned, and is quite incidental. Itis a type of education, which the child
gets while moving and living in the community with other persons. . E.g. art gallery, cinema, library,
museum, press radio, TV, peer group, e.t.c
