What is Baggage?
Baggage can be synonymous with "luggage", or can refer to the train of people and goods, both military and of a personal nature. And Luggage is any number of bags, cases and containers which hold a traveler s articles during transit.

Baggage Handling

A baggage-handling system has three main jobs:

y Move bags from the check-in area to the departure

gate y Move bags from one gate to another during transfers y Move bags from the arrival gate to the baggageclaim area

Destination-coded vehicles
y (DCVs), unmanned carts propelled by linear induction

motors mounted to the tracks, can load and unload bags without stopping.

Automatic scanners
y scan the labels on the luggage.

Conveyors
y Conveyors equipped with junctions and sorting

machines automatically route the bags to the gate.

Baggage-handling Basics
A baggage-handling system is kind of like a road system in a city: The conveyors are like the local roads, the DCV tracks are like the highway and your bag is like the car.

The DCV highway goes through a tunnel from the check-in area to the passenger terminals.

What is Excess Baggage?
