MOULD SYSTEMS AND WITHDRAWAL STRAIGHTENER & DUMMY BAR SYSTEMS IN CONTINUOUS CASTING OF STEEL

MATHBROS ENGINEERS PVT. LTD.

COMPANY INTRODUCTION
Established in 1989
The company designs and manufactures the continuous casting systems and equipments for the steel plants. Enjoys confidence and goodwill of many customers Reasonable cost and timely deliveries Recently introduced Just-In-Time systems

CONTINUOUS CASTING

In 1950, steel was poured into stationary moulds to form ingots. Since then, "continuous casting" has evolved from a batch process into a sophisticated continuous process. This has occurred through understanding principles of mechanical design, heat-transfer, metallurgical properties and stress-strain relationships.

The process has been optimized through careful integration of electromechanical sensors, computer-control, and production planning. It allows lower-cost production

WITHDRAWAL STRAIGHTENER & DUMMY BAR SYSTEMS

WITHDRAWAL & STRAIGHTENING UNIT

The unit is arranged behind the secondary cooling zone. It changes the path of the casting from a curved into a straight path between two facing banks of rolls below and above the castings. The casting issuing from the curved apron is generally straightened by using a tangent roll. This roll is located in the bank of rolls on the outside of the curve at the point of transition between the curved and the straight path of the casting known as

the tangent point.

The straightener draws the dummy bar away from the mould and thus also serves as a withdrawal device.

WHAT IS A DUMMY BAR?

Dummy bar is used for starting the withdrawal of the strand from the mould. It is extended to the straightener when positioned in readiness for casting. There are 2 types of dummy bars: pivotally connected links which are short as compared to the distance

between the mould and the straightener.

rigid, curved dummy bar which has a radius equal to the casting radius.

PART-RIGID PART-FLEXIBLE TYPE DUMMY BAR

This dummy bar resembles the rigid dummy bar, but is composed of several long links which are connected so as to permit limited, relative pivotal movement
