INTRODUCTION

Polycarbonate
Polycarbonate material is formed by a condensation polymerization resulting in a carbon that is bonded to three oxygen's. The most common system for this polymerization is formed by a reaction of biphenyl and phosgene

WHY USE POLYCARBONATE?

It is lightweight, it is just 1/8 the weight of glass. It is highly flexible. It is virtually unbreakable. Able to stand extreme abuse, its impact strength is 250 times greater than glass and 10 times greater than acrylic. It has excellent sound abatement properties. Saves energy. The twin-wall construction gives excellent thermal insulating values while blocking UV transmission.

PROPERTIES
PROPERTIES: Tensile Strength - 9,500 psi Compressive Strength - 12,500 psi Water Absorption (24 hours) - 0.15% Heat Deflection Temperature @66 psi - .280F Brittle Temperature -211F Flammability - Horizontal Burn (Flame Spread) AEB, Value <1 Color Clear, and Bronze. Can be manufactured in Grey, Blue, Green, etc depending on the Order quantity. Thickness -2,3,4,5,6,8,10 mm thick for compact and 2,3,4 mm thick for Embossed.

ADVANTAGES
Advantages of POLYCARBONATE are : Good level of Thermal and Moderate Noise Insulation High Quality of UV protection See through structures possible for better aesthetics. Almost any shape and size possible Wide range of colors available Economical in comparison to Glass Skylights Very safe in comparison to Glass Skylights Light Structure over all Less number of joints due to availability of PC in great lengths Installation is Easy in comparison to Glass Skylights Replacement in case of damages is moderately economical

DISADVANTAGES
Structure is not to be walked on High transmission of heat Prone to scratches over a long term Frequent cleaning required

APPLICATIONS
Sky light system Housing glasses, indoor partitions, sidewalk, sight windows, sunshade, terrace and showers doors Greenhouse shopping centers Subway exits, parking lots, garage tents, bus stops, terminals, shopping, shopping arcades. Safety roof light for airports and plants Sound absorption wall for freeways, highspeed railway and MRTs
