SIMPLIFIED APPROACH

ACCESSING THE SYSTEM


Before using the system you have to open or load it. There are two basic approaches:
If you open www.mzumbe.ac.tz website and the click at Mzumbe University Intranet At Internet address bar type http://elearning.mzumbe.ac.tz and press enter key

If one of the above approaches is used the following window will open

Before you effectively use the system make sure that you identify yourself to the system From the home page, locate LOGIN link and click it Type in your user name e.g. sknjovu Type in your password e.g. xxyyzz123 Click at LOGIN button below password window Check the following window

Once you have logged in you will be inside the system Organization of the system

EDITING YOUR PROFILE


Click at your name e.g. simon njovu Your profile window will open as shown in the following slide Click at EDIT PROFILE button Change details shown in your profile Fields with red color should not be empty After making changes, click at UPDATE PROFILE button You can even change your password if you wish

GETTING INTO YOUR ROOM


Identify your room Mzumbe General? PMMO? CICT? You have to be sure Open your room click on it e.g. click at CICT Select a subject e.g. ICT 030 or weekly report Turn Editing On to be able to add resources or activities. Check the following 2 windows/slides

USING YOUR SYSTEM


Inside your room
Turn on editing

Add Resources:
compose a text page compose a web page link to a file or website display a directory

Add Activities:
assignments: inline text, uploading single file, offline activity forum quiz

ADDING RESOURCES: web page


This resource allows you add text message for your enrolled readers Open ADD RESOURCE window i.e. click it Click at COMPOSE A WEB PAGE and then Proceed as follows:
type the name of your text, as it will appear in your room if you wish you can type a summary of your text compose full text of your web page make it visible (show) or you can hide click at SAVE AND RETURN TO COURSE or SAVE AND DISPLAY

Remember to write the name of your resource e.g. notice of absence Optionally you can write a summary of the resource Make sure that you type text for your web page e.g. details about your notice of absence Decide to show or hide the page Save and return to course or save and display After this process you will see NOTICE OF ABSENCE link in your room

UPLOADING A FILE
Assume that you have a document to share with other in the system Open ADD RESOURCE window Click at LINK TO A FILE OR WEB SITE Type the name of the resource e.g. RASIMU YA MFUKO WA FARAJA Optionally give a summary of the resource Click at CHOOSE OR UPLOAD A FILE

Click at UPLOAD A FILE Click at BROWSE to locate source of your file e.g. flash disk or my documents Click at a FILE NAME of the file you want to upload Click at OPEN button Click at UPLOAD THIS FILE To the right of your uploaded file click at CHOOSE Click at SAVE AND RETURN TO COURSE or SAVE AND DISPLAY See the following 5 windows to verify your actions

CREATING A FOLDER
Locate ADMINISTRATION site on the left of your screen Click at FILES from the administration site Click at MAKE A FOLDER button Type the folder name e.g. JUST TESTING Click at CREATE button It is done, you have an empty folder Check the following windows for the above steps

PUTTING FILES IN A FOLDER


On the administration site proceed as follows:
click at FILES click at the folder you want to use click at UPLOAD A FILE click at BROWSE click at a file you want to put in the folder click at OPEN click at UPLOAD THIS FILE You are done

You can put more files in one folder The files are stored in the University Server and not in your computer

SHARING THE FOLDER


Select a week or topic to display the folder Open ADD RESOURCE Click at DISPLAY A DIRECTORY Type the name of the folder to share e.g. JEST TESTING Click at SAVE AND RETURN TO COURSE or SAVE AND DISPLAY It is done.

VIEWING FILES IN THE FOLDER


Locate the link to the folder e.g. JUST TESTING Click at the located link Locate the folder to view its files e.g. JUST TESTING Click at the located folder to open it Open the file you need from the folder It is done!!! Check the following windows

ADDING ACTIVITIES
Assignments: linking a file Chat: only two discuss issues Forums: more than one person get into discussions, one should start the forum Quizzes: mainly for students Glossaries: terms that are to be clear to the system users e.g. kukata kiu ni etc.

CREATING FORUMS
Select a week or topic to create your forum Open ADD ACTIVITY window Click at FORUM Type forum name e.g. Huduma za Afya Select type of forum e.g. standard Type brief description of your forum Skip all other options for beginners *** Click at SAVE AND RETURN TO COURSE *** Discussion forum is created: see the windows below

ADDING A TOPIC TO FORUM


Click at the forum to add topic e.g. Huduma ya Afya Mzumbe Click at ADD A NEW DISCUSSION TOPIC Type in subject for discussion topic Type in the message to be discussed Choose dont post forum to my e-mail Click at POST TO FORUM It is OVER topic added and ready for discussion The following four windows are just one window at different points

PARTICIPATING IN A FORUM
Click at the forum of interest e.g. Huduma za Afya Mzumbe Click at forum topic to be discussed e.g. Tuzungumzie hii hoja ya bima ya afya Click at REPLY Type your reply/contribution in the message box Click at POST TO FORUM Click at CONTINUE You have participated and your reply is seen by others in the forum Check the following windows

UPLOADING WEEKLY REPORTS


Access the system already discussed Log in to the system Click at MZUMBE GENERAL Click at DVC(A) Office Locate the link for weekly report and click Browse to look for your report Select a file containing your weekly report Click at OPEN Click at UPLOAD THIS FILE Click at SAVE AND RETURN TO COURSE

READING FROM THE DVC SITE


Access the system Login Open MZUMBE GENERAL Click at DVC(A) Office Locate a link from which there is information for you and click it Click at OPEN to read it After reading, it is over. Just close it. Check the following windows for uploading and reading reports
