Sister organisation of CUPA Set up the Bannerghatta Rescue Centre (BRC) in 2002 as a joint initiative with the Karnataka Forest Department BRC is a 24*7 refuge for the injured and abused wildlife and has a basic but adequate infrastructure for treating small wildlife include a surgical unit, pre and post operative holding area, primate and elephant enclosures, aviaries, staff housing and rainwater harvesting pond
About 70 90 animals come to us every month and a similar number of releases, small percentage of mortality Small mammals, birds, reptiles 40 different species Most common are birds owls, kites, parakeets Mammals monkeys, mongoose Reptiles snakes, turtles and tortoises Stringent documentation and record keeping as all of them are Scheduled Animals under the Wildlife Protection Act, 1972
Wildlife rescue as we see is made up of small beings that contribute to a large whole All species, big and small play their part in maintaining the ecological balance Nothing is too small squirrels and warblers get as much care as jackals and elephants Every animal / bird that comes to us is precious and we will do everything to save it Wild in the place to be for wildlife, not captivity. Hence no permanent inmates
