Introduction
Diode is a special interest group(SIG) of
NITK-IEEE which focuses into topics pertaining to electrical , electronic and communication interests.
taken up workshops on a number of topics such as basic circuit building, Image processing, Simulink, Microcontroller programming(for Atmega and MSP430 platforms) for the first and second year members.
For the present semester we plan to 4/21/12
List of projects
Our projects focus mainly on 3D image processing, Microcontroller applications, sensor and actuator interfacing and wireless communication. We plan to have the following projects.
1. Key-Glove 2. 3D image stitching 3. Game interface with Kinect. 4. Holographic telepresence. 5. Brushless motor controller

development.
Key glove
The aim of the project is to make an interfacing system which is controlled by the movement of hand and can be interpreted on the PC or physically. We intend to make a handheld device which can interpret hand motion with the help of an IMU. Major Hardware requirements
1. Xbee series 2 x 2 2. AstonGP10D002 -accelerometer-gyroscope
combination
breakout board.

3d Image stitching
3D images are taken in point cloud format using 3d cameras like Kinect, etc. We plan to take multiple point cloud images with partially overlapping spaces, and merge them to form a single 3D image. Major Hardware requirements:
1. Xbox360 Kinect.

Holographic telepresence
Using ROS we plan to identify individuals from a real-time 3D video, map them onto another environment and simulate virtual existence of a person in that environment. Major Hardware Requirements
1. Xbox360 Kinect.

Conclusion
These project when completed will be presented in a NITK IEEE SIG expo and if possible in Engineer-2011. Upon the completion of all these projects we plan to integrate them to develop a complete application. The projects will be undertaken by the Final and 3rd year members, assisted by the 2nd year members of NITK IEEE.
