 The Mark of the Beast
 One of major subjects in Revelation is the MARK
OF THE BEAST (Rev. 13:11 – 18)
 Rev. 13:16 - 18
“He causes all, both small and great, rich and poor,
free and slave, to receive a mark on their right hand
or on their foreheads, and no one may buy or sell
except one who has the mark or the name of the
beast or the number of his name. Here is wisdom.
Let him who has understanding calculate the
number of the beast, for it is the number of a man:
His number is 666”
 The Mark of the Beast
 3 kinds of marks in the Bible
1. The mark of Cain (Gen. 4:15) – mark of mercy

2. The mark (seal) of God on 144,000 (Ez. 9:4,

Rev.7:3,4) – mark of protection

3. The mark of the beast (Rev. 13:16,17) – mark of

devotion & slavery

 There is much speculation on the meaning of the

mark of the beast – “666”
 The Mark of the Beast
 The Book of Revelation is a Book of symbolism –
picture language (e.g., lampstand)
 Hence, we cannot take everything in the book
literally
 When God marked Cain and others, I believe it is
not a literal mark but the power or presence of God
to protect/preserve
 As Christians we are all marked or sealed by the
Holy Spirit for the day of redemption (Eph. 1:13,
4:30)
 The Mark of the Beast
 Receiving the mark of the Beast is to be
sealed with & controlled by the evil spirit of
the Beast (Antichrist)
 The spirit of the beast is the spirit of Antichrist
described in the epistle of John (1 Jn. 2:18, 2
Jn. 1:7)
 How does the spirit of Antichrist work?
 The Spirit of Antichrist
 Anti = instead or in place of (not against)
 Antichrist = In place of Christ
 What is the spirit of antichrist?
 2 Jn.1:7 “For many deceivers are entered
into the world, who confess not that Jesus
Christ came in the flesh. This is a deceiver
and an antichrist
 1Jn.2:18 “The spirit of antichrist is active
already
 Spirit of Antichrist - spirit of deception
The Spirit of Antichrist
 Revelation 13:11, 14
“Then I saw another beast coming out of the
earth … and he deceives those who dwell on
the earth by those signs which he was
granted to do in the sight of the beast telling
those who dwell on the earth to make an
image to the beast …”
 Those who take the mark (spirit) of the
Antichrist are those who are deceived to
displace Christ with something else (idol)
The Spirit of Antichrist
 In the last days there will be strong delusion
sent upon the earth (2 Th.2:8 -12)
 Our forehead symbolises our minds and
right hand our strength or work
 Those who yield their minds and strength
(hearts) to anything apart from Christ are
taking the mark of the beast = giving our
allegiance to the Antichrist
 If our allegiance is to God, we will not serve
the Antichrist and we won’t be taking his
mark
 Heart Issues
 Many get distracted by external issues, e.g.,
Mondex, Verichip, Who is antichrist?
 More importantly, let us guard our heart with
all diligence – rebellion, unbelief, critical
spirit, covetous, envy, jealousy,
discontentment, anger, ungratefulness,
adultery, fornication, honesty, bitterness,
hatred, quarrelsome, etc
 The spirit of antichrist (world) is subtle,
seductive and will distract you from God &
displace your devotion
 Deception
 How do I know I’m not deceived?
 How do I “deceive-proof” my heart? Our
hearts are deceitful – by focusing on God and
not man
 Deception is the main tool of the devil –
started in the garden of Eden with Eve
 It begins with turning our attention from God
(His Word & purpose) to SELF (Humanism –
666, the number of man)
 The Challenge!
 The world lives in deception and has taken
on the mark of the beast – their minds and
devotion is to man (self)
 We who are in the light must replace their
mark with the mark of God
 The Gospel is the power of God unto
salvation (1 Cor. 1:16)
