Publishing research results has been one of the most important indicators for the quality of scientific work done by a researcher.

In most cases bibliographies are written in necessity e.g. tenure or reapplication at Universities Organizing and maintaining publication's list can be a time consuming task Applications for reference management

In Serbia, rules for scoring and categorization of scientific work are given by the National council for scientific and technological development Universities follow this rules during elections, when a scientist needs to provide a list of publications.

Besides the paper details, it is necessary to provide other technical information that depends on the category of a scientific publication

Reference application is developed within the CG&GIS Laboratory at the Faculty of Electronic Engineering, University of Nis.
It's main goal was to enable collaborative reference management, easy generation of references' list and search of publications. In time it has modified and improved according to users needs, and today it represents a serious references management

Web application Reference: User types


Application supports two types of users: users with write privileges and users with read privileges. Users with read privileges can search, browse, display, and export bibliographic records. Users with write privileges can add, edit, delete, import, and export references through web browser.

Web application Reference: Functionalities and modules


There are currently eleven modules within the application that allow different functionalities to different types of users

Authentication module (login) Users module (shows web pages depending on user privileges) Categorization module (manages publications categorization) Messages module (for sending e-mail messages) Account module (manages user personal data) Publications module (manages publications add, edit, delete) Export module (exports publications' list in various formats ) Styles module (manages references presentation) Statistics module (shows various statistics about publications) CV module (exports users information into a personal Web page) Search module (enables searching of publications on different criteria)

Adding/editing references:

M indices (M10-M80) M categorization covers: Books, Book chapters, Journal articles, Conference proceedings, Scientific , Technical results, Thesis, etc.

Conclusion

Reference application enables efficient and timely management of references list It is designed having in mind the special requirements for references categorization in Serbia, but it is not limited to this It enables management of users and scientific references It enables search of references, generation of authors bibliography and visibility of authors work on the Web
