Managers must decide whether the organization should remain union free or allow unionisation. If managers decide that the company should remain union free, they must take stapes to keep unions away from the organisation. If unionisation should allowed, managers must decide what type of union management relation ship they want. The management must also choose the type of tactics to use while negotiating a new wage settlement.

It is a tactics used by the management to handle the unions. One of the major instruments of force that unions employ is the organizing drive which is nothing but forming a union where non exist. Union employ tactics to deal with managements like unionizing, strike, invoking political, patronage, and blackmailing are the most common tactics used by unions. The organizer tries to capitalize one employee dissatisfaction and promise workers that their dissatisfaction would be removed if they join a union.

Trade Union Movement in our country has centurylong history. The first quarter of the last century saw the birth of the trade union movement but the seed of the movement sown much earlier. After the first world war the country come to know about effectiveness of the strike which lead to formalizing of several unions. The All India Trade Union Congress(AITUC) was set up in 1920 with the objectives of representing workers interest, to co-ordinate the activities of all labor organizations in the country, and to spread the message about the need for union movement.

Trade union in our country are governed by trade union act 1926. The main objective of the act is to provide for the registration of trade unions and to give registered tread union a legal status and immunity to their office-bearers and numbers from civil and criminal liability in respect of legitimate trade union activities.

In pursuit of the primary objectives, the act contains 33 sections. The provisions can be broadly divided into 8 sections namely -Definitions(S.2) -Registrations of unions(S.3 to12) -Duties of registered unions(S.17 to 21) -Amalgamation and dissolution(S.24 to 27) -Submission of returns(S.28) -Penalties and fines(S.21 to 33) -Rights of registered unions(S.17 to 21) -Power to make regulations(S.29 to 30)
