Family Planning Method

Family Planning

The regulation of fertility as to have limited number of children. The spacing of children and that parents are completely free to choose the number of children they want. The rational voluntary & moral management of all processes of family life including human reproduction. Is not simply a way of regulating and spacing the birth of children but it also helps childless couples find out the cause

Population Control- is the control of the rate of population growth. Contraception- is the conscious regulation of pregnancy by a couple who have regular sex relation. Abortion- is the termination of pregnancy prior to birth. It is considered a simple murder. Christians strongly believed that abortion is immoral and illegal and do not accept as a family method.

Folk Method- consist of the postcoidal douche or douching and prolonged lactation strategies. a. Postcoidal Douching- is done by flushing the vagina with medicated solution immediately after intercourse to remove or kill the sperms. This practice is relatively ineffective as the sperm cells may have entered the cervical canal and are unaffected. Frequent douching may also damage the vaginal lining. b. Prolonged Lactation- an ancient practice of preventing pregnancy, is prolonged breastfeeding which delays ovulation. This practice is safe and free but it may not be effective to those whose ovulation period returns from 2 to 4 months after a babys delivery.

2. Behavioral Methods
a. Natural Method- it is commonly known as the rhythm method because its success depends upon the womans monthly menstrual cycle. The natural method of family planning does not require the use of any drug, chemical, or plastic sheaths. The husband simply refrains from having sexual intercourse with his wife during the latters fertile

b. Ovulation Method- the fertile period could be determined through the use of calendar, thermometer, or appearance of cervical mucus or vaginal discharge in the vaginal canal. Peak Symptom- the first discharge of mucus is usually yellowish which soon turns clearer and more slippery and the sexual union should be avoided. c. Withdrawal Method- is known as coitus interruptus because the act of sexual intercourse is interrupted

3. Mechanical Contraceptive
a. Condom- is a thin sheath of elastic rubber worn by the male over the pennis during the sexual intercourse. Advantage, cheap and protector from STD/AIDS.

b. Diaphragm- is a shallow rubber cap with a flexible spring that is compressed and inserted into the vagina so that it fits snugly over the cervix.

c. Cervical Cap- is made of rubber with a tapering dome appearance designed to fit snugly over the cervix. When fitted by a doctor, it stays in place during sexual intercourse and over longer periods.

4. Chemical Contraceptives
a. Vaginal Suppositories and Tabletsis a small bullet-shaped substance containing chemicals capable of killing sperms. It is inserted into the vagina 10-15 minutes prior to intercourse. Likewise, the vaginal foaming tablet is moistened with water or saliva then inserted into the vagina and forms a coat of foam to prevent the sperms from entering the uterus. These suppositories and tablets are very convenient and need no prescription from a doctor. They, however,

b. Jellies, Creams and Vaginal Foams- are often packaged in bottles

and sold with plastic applicators. They are inserted into the vagina just before sexual intercourse. The purpose is to immobilize or kill the sperms. These spermicides, however, only last for at least an hour. There should be no douching or washing of the vagina for 6 hours after intercourse for effective usage.

5. Intrauterine Device (IUD)- It is a plastic or metal object that a specially trained health worker or midwife places inside the womb, it prevents pregnancy. IUD fall out of some women in others they cause pain, discomfort, heavy bleeding during periods and sometimes serious problems, but for some women they give no trouble at all. It may be the simplest and most economical

6. Oral ContraceptiveThe Pill

It is made of chemicals (hormones) that normally occur in a womans body. When taken correctly, Pill is one of the most effective methods for avoiding pregnancy. How to take pills Packet of 21? - Take the first pill on the 5th day from the beginning of your period counting the firdt day of the period as day 1. then take 1 pill everyday until the packet is finished (21 days). Take your pill at the same time each day. - After finishing the packet, wait 7 days

7. Injectables-One of the latest methods of family planning is the use of an injectable contraceptive drug known as DepProvera (DMPA). Instead of taking pills, a woman is injected with this drug at the hip muscle. The effectivity of one injection lasts for three (3) months. Some side effects reported derive from using this method to include headaches, bloating

8. Surgical Methods of Sterilization


a. Tubal Ligation for womenrefers to the act of tying or cutting the fallopian tubes to make a woman sterile. It is 100% effective.

b. Vasectomy for men- is a minor and cheap operation done within 15-20 minutes wherein the male vas deferens, a tube like passage that stems from each testis that produces the sperm is cut or tied. Phagocytosis- the male body will still continue to produce sperm cells but thes are absorbed by the body.
