amount of current.
INSULATOR
Also called a
LIGHTNING ARRESTER
It is a device used to
protect the insulation on the system from the damaging effect of lightening.
arrester also known as surge arrester has a high voltage terminal and ground terminal.
CIRCUIT BREAKER
It is an automatically operated
electrical switch.
Designed to protect an
electrical circuit from damage caused by overload or short circuit. fault condition.
breaker
Vacuum circuit
breaker
TRANSFORMER
Transfers electrical energy
between two circuits. Consists of two wire coils wrapped around a core. coils- primary and secondary winding. Energy is transferred by mutual induction caused by a changing electromagnetic field. Step up transformer, transformed energy into higher voltage where as step down transforms it into lower voltage.
TYPES OF TRANSFORMER
Power transformer
Instrument transformer
Auto transformer
RELAY
It is an electrically operated switch. Current flowing through the coil of
the relay creates a magnetic field which attracts a lever and changes the switch contacts. relays have two switch positions.
Types of RELAY
Overcurrent relay Earth fault relay Distance relay Buchholz relay Auxillary relay
CONCLUSION
DESIGN OF SUB STATION INVOLVES A
IS REQUIRED ON THE PART OF DESIGN ENGINEERS AS WELL AS THE SUPPLIERS OF VARIOUS EQUIPMENTS SO AS TO ACHIEVE TROUBLE FREE OPERATION OF POWER SYSTEM.
