HFO tank Arrangement

Origin state

This is HFO tank arrangement of the basis ship. However, it is not satisfied with oil tank protection rule. So, we remove it to cargo hold No. 4.

1010

HFO tank Arrangement

Design ship

We arrange HFO tank in No.4 cargo hold, and change midship section to satisfy the rule. We will optimize it after performing loading conditions.

Thrust of the ship is larger than thrust of the propeller. It means that main engine and propeller can perform larger speed. That is, there is waste of the thrust. Thus we have to carry out previous procedure and interpolate to find point that two thrust is same.

5. Calculation of Freeboard
Principal dimensions for freeboard calculation
Dimensions L.O.A L.B.P B (mld) D (mld, to upper deck) DFM (mld, to freeboard deck) 0.85 DFM (mld, to freeboard deck) Scantling Draft (mld) Thickness of Deck stringer plate Freeboard type Displaced volume Design Ship 176.58 m 166.58 m 27.2 m 16.4 m 16.4 m 13.94 m 11.4 m 0.024 m B 47596.0 m3

5. Calculation of Freeboard

Ships Type : Container ship // B Freeboard length (Lf)

0.96 LWL at 0.85 DFM = 165.858 m From A.P. to fore side of stem = 168.32 m We got the largest value; 168.32 m

Freeboard breadth (Bf) = 27.2 m Freeboard depth (Df) = Dmld + Thickness of deck stringer plate = 16.4 + 0.024 = 16.424 m

5. Calculation of Freeboard

Tabular freeboard (Reg. 27 ~ 29) 168.0 m 169.0 m 2,680 2,698

We use this table to calculate tabular freeboard by interpolation method Tabular freeboard = 2,685.76 mm

Correction for block coefficient (Reg. 30)

(Cb + 0.68) / 1.36 = (0.745767 + 0.68) / 1.36 = 1.048358

Correction for depth (Reg. 31)

5. Calculation of Freeboard

Correction for superstructure and trunk (Reg. 33 ~ 37)

LE (Effective length) = 13.061 m, LE/Lf = 0.077596

We use these tables to get the correction for superstructures and trunk Deduction percentage = 5.431737 % Correction for superstructure and trunk = 1070 0.05431737 = 58.12 mm

5. Calculation of Freeboard

Correction for sheer (Reg. 38) (1)

Standard fore sheer mean height = 4409.315 / 8 = 551.1643 mm Standard aft sheer mean height = 8818.629 / 8 = 1102.329 mm Standard sheer mean height = S0 = 826.7465 mm Actual fore sheer mean height = 184 / 8 = 23 mm Actual aft sheer mean height = 0 mm Actual sheer mean height = 11.5 mm

5. Calculation of Freeboard

Correction for sheer (Reg. 38) (2)

Sheer credit for a poop or forecastle Sfcle = (y / 3) (L1 / Lf) = (444 / 3) (13.061 / 168.32) = 11.48424 mm According to Reg. 33, Standard superstructure height is 2,300 mm So, y = 2,744 2,300 = 444 mm L1 is mean length; 13.061 m Spoop = 0, because it is lower than standard superstructure height. S = 11.5 + 11.48424 = 22.98424 mm Correction for sheer = (S0 S) (0.75 0.5 LE / Lf) = 571.637 mm

5. Calculation of Freeboard
Correction process Tabular freeboard Correction for block coefficient Correction for freeboard depth Correction for sheer Correction for superstructure and trunk Summer Freeboard Freeboard depth Allowed summer load water line (Freeboard depth Required freeboard) Scantling draft Value (mm)
2685.76 X 1.048358 + 1300.667 +571.637 - 58.12 4629.8222 16424 11794.1778 11400

Therefore, summer load water line is 11.4 m. Next, we check the minimum bow height and reserve buoyancy in accordance with Reg. 39.

5. Calculation of Freeboard

Reserve buoyancy (Reg. 39)

A1 = 126.24 m2 A2 = 2.489 m2 A3 = 37.321 m2 Projected area = A1 + A2 + A3 = 166.05 m2 Required area = 148.4368 m2

Minimum bow height (Reg. 39)

Projected area > Required area, it is satisfied with the rule.

Fcle mean length = 13.061 > 0.07 Lf; 11.7824 m (Reg. 39 (2)) Sheer extension = 33.9 > 0.15 Lf; 25.248 m (Reg. 39 (2)) Minimum bow height Fb = 5,942.196 mm Ha = Df(mld) + Fcle height at F.P + Sheer + Stringer plate th. Ts(mld) = 7,937 mm
