South African History Online

The Constructivist teaching approach describes learning as a change in meaning constructed from experience. The constructivist perspective defines knowledge as a subjective interpretation of experience. Thus, knowledge construction is a process of thinking about and interpreting experience. Because each individual has a unique set of experiences, seen in their way, each individual has their own unique knowledge. Therefore learning is said to have occurred when our knowledge is changed in a way that allows us to interpret our experiences in a more complete or refined way, that is when we are able to see something we could not see before. For the South African foundation Phase learner in the context of South African History this means being able to change their knowledge and interoperate and experience South African History in a more complete way than before

Instruction Design is the systematic and reflective processes of translating principles of learning and instruction into plans of instructional materials, activities, information resources and evaluation. An organised way of developing instructional materials or programs is the ADDIE Model. The ADDIE model is a systematic instructional design model consisting of five phases: (1) Analysis (2) Design (3) Development (4) Implementation (5) Evaluation

In the analysis phase, the instructional problem is clarified, the instructional goals and objectives are established and the learning environment and learner's existing knowledge and skills are identified.
