What is a sustainable community?

We need to achieve a point where we have sustainable cities, this can be achieved through sustainable development=

Sustainable - Being able to meet the needs of the present population of a place, without compromising the ability of future generations to be able to do the same.

So a sustainable city is one that suits its present population, and can be kept so that it suits future dwellers of the city too.

The Egan Wheel

Briefly explain how the Egan Wheel came about

In 2004 Sir John Egan was asked by the Deputy Prime Minister to examine how communities could be more sustainable. Egan suggests that sustainable communities must meet the diverse needs of existing and future residents, their children and other users by offering choice. In order to be sustainable, communities must: Make effective use of natural resources Enhance the environment Promote social cohesion and inclusion and Strengthen economic prosperity. He introduced what is referred to as the Egan Wheel, which can be used as a tool for judging sustainable communities.

I feel the need for green

Restoring the old into new is very important why? Why should clean green space be an important part of this? Often economic development is seen more important then environmental protection. Why? Is this right?
