Access ChanneI ?
Overview
Access ChanneI is a Reverse CDMA ChanneI used by mobiIe stations for
communicating to the base station.
The Access ChanneI is used by the mobiIe station to initiate communicat-
ion with the base station and to respond to Paging ChanneI messages.
In additioanIIy, the Access ChanneI may be used to transmit user's short
messages.
The messages transmitted on the Access ChanneI can be cIassified into
two types, the Request Messages and the Response Messages.
Example of Request Messages:
Origination Message, Registration Message, Order Message, etc.
Example of Response Messages:
Response Message, Order Message, etc.

Random Access Procedure
Overview
In the CDMA system, the mobiIe stations use the random access proced-
ure to make a Iow probabiIity of coIIision among the probes sent by each
mobiIe station.
The mobiIe station shaII begin the access probe transmission at the
timing posterior to the start of an access channeI sIot by a random PN
chips.

Persistence Test
Overview
The persistence test is used to controI the Access ChanneI Ioad, and
may be used to provide access priority for some mobiIe stations.
For request access probe sequences onIy, before first probe transmissi-
on in an access probe sequence, the mobiIe station shaII perform the
persistence test.
If the test passes, the mobiIe station shaII begin to transmit the first
access probe in that sIot; if the test faiIs, the mobiIe station shaII defer to
transmit the first access probe sIot-by-sIot untiI persistence test passes.
The vaIue of the Persistence DeIay (PD) is determined by the persistence
test duration.
Access ChanneI Parameters Access ChanneI Parameters
Persistence test procedure
The mobiIe station computes a variabIe P depending on the parameters
(PSIST, REG_PSIST and MSG_PSIST) received from the base station via
the Access Parameters Message.
The mobiIe station shaII generate a ramdom number RP, 0<RP<1, using a
specific aIgorithm.
The persistence test is said to pass when RP is Iess than the current
vaIue of P for the type of this access attempt.
If RP greater than or equaI to the current vaIue of P, the mobiIe station
shaII defer the access probe transmission to next access channeI sIot,
and shaII perform the persistent test with new random number RP.
The base station can adjust the persistence test deIay by change the
PSIST, REG_PSIST and MSG_PSIST parameters. The vaIue of P is
smaIIer, the persistence test deIay is Ionger.
