Biodiesel
Introduction:Today by the growth of global warming it will impossible to live safely in environment. The use of mineral petro-diesel increases the amount of Co2, carbon monoxide in the air. So to reduces it we use the green fuel as biofuel. Biodiesel is environmental friendly and ideal for heavily polluted cites. Biodiesel is an biodegradable as salt. Biodiesel produces 80% less carbon dioxide and 100% less sulfur dioxide emission. It provides 90% reduction in cancer risks. Biofuel can be used alone or mixed in any ratio with mineral oil diesel fuel. Biodiesel extends the live of diesel engine. Biodiesel is cheaper than mineral oil diesel Biodiesel is conserving natural resource.
Biodiesel
What is Biodiesel : Biodiesel an Alternative & Renewable Energy for a Cleaner & Greener Future. Biodiesel refers to a non-petroleum based diesel fuel consisting of short chain alkyl (methyl or ethyl) ester, made by Transesterication of vegetable oil or animal fat (tallow).
Biodiesel is an environmentally safe, low pollution fuel for most diesel internal
combustion & turbine engines.
Biodiesel
Blends : Much of the world uses a system known as the B factor to state the amount of biodiesel in any fuel mix. Fuel containing 20% biodiesel is labeled B20, while pure biodiesel is referred to as B100. Blends of 20 percent biodiesel with 80 percent petroleum diesel (B20) can generally be used in unmodified diesel engines. Biodiesel can also be used in its pure form (B100), but may require certain engine modifications to avoid maintenance and performance problems.
Biodiesel
Origine : On August 31, 1937, G. Chavanne of the University of Brussels (Belgium) was granted a patent for a Procedure for the transformation of vegetable oils for their uses as fuels. This patent described the alcoholysis (Often referred to as transesterification) of vegetable oils using ethanol. It is used in order to separate the fatty acids from the glycerol by replacing the glycerol with short linear alcohols.
Biodiesel
Applications :
Biodiesel can be used in pure form (B100) or may be blended with petroleum
diesel at any concentration in most modern diesel engines. Biodiesel has different solvent properties than petro diesel & Will degrade natural rubber gaskets and hoses in vehicles.
Railway Uses :
The UKs first train to run on biodiesel is going into service as part of an
attempt to make rail travel more environmentally friendly. The virgin voyager has been modified to run on eco-friendly fuel.
The train uses a blended fuel which is 20% biodiesel to reduces Co2
emissions without harming the engine.
Biodiesel
Air Craft : It is the first step towards cleaner flying. The worlds first biofuel commercial aircraft took off from Londons Heathrow. Airport on February 24, 2008.
As a heating oil : Biodiesel can also be used as heating fuel in domestic and commercial boilers. It is sometimes known as bioheat.
Biodiesel
Properties : Biodiesel is a liquid which varies in color between golden and dark brown depending on the production feedstock. It is immiscible with water. It has a high boiling point and low vapor pressure. Biodiesel has a density of 0.88 g/cm3, less than that of water. It increases the life of the fuel injection equipment.
Biodiesel
Production : Biodiesel is commonly produced by the transesterification of the vegetable oil or animal fat feedstock. There are several methods for carrying out this transesteriication reaction such as supercritical processes, ultrasonic methods, and even microwave
methods.
It is mainly produced from soyabean oil and rapeseed. It is also produced from Jatropha & other crops such as mustard, flax,

Features of Biodiesel : Biodiesel is a clean burning fuel. Biodiesel does not have any toxic emissions like mineral diesel.
