Early life and work


Born in a small town in Ely, Neveda. Ulrich attended Brigham Young University and began graduate school in Organizational Behavior. He completed his doctorate in business at UCLA. In 1982, Ulrich began teaching at the University of Michigan where he taught in the MBA program and in executive education. He currently teaches full time in Executive Education.

Career
University professor, author, speaker, management coach, and

management consultant. Currently a professor of business at the Ross School of Business, University of Michigan and co-founder of the RBL Group. Currently on the Board of Directors for Herman Miller, a Fellow in the National Academy of Human Resources, and is on the Board of Trustees of Southern Virginia University.

Motto Good teaching is not what he knows, but how his knowledge helps participants do what they do better.

Honors and awards


2010 Kirk Englehardt Exemplary Business Ethics Award from Utah Valley University 2009 Listed in Thinkers 50 as management thought leader. Listed as the most influential person in HR by HR Magazine . 2008 Listed as the most influential person in HR by HR Magazine. 2007 Awarded the Lifetime Achievement in Workplace Learning and Performance by the American Society for Training and Development. Awarded Honorary Doctorate from University of Abertay Dundee in Scotland for outstanding achievements in business strategy and research.

Strategic Partner-is about alignment of HR activities and initiatives with the global business strategy . Change agent- is about supporting the change and transition of the business in the area of the human capital in the organization.

Administrative Expert changes over the period of time. The employee advocate knows what employees need and HRM should know it.
