MEANING
The Sacrament of Reconciliation is a common name used for the Sacrament of Confession . Whereas "Confession" stresses the action of the believer in the sacrament, "Reconciliation" stresses the action of God, who uses the sacrament to reconcile us to Himself by restoring sanctifying grace in our souls.

Meaning
Through the Sacrament of Reconciliation we receive God's pardon for our failure to abide by his will by not intending to love God and our neighbor (Matthew 22:3739) by what we do and not do.

Meaning
It is called a "sacrament" not simply a function or ceremony, because it is an outward sign instituted by Christ to impart grace to the soul.

Meaning
the Sacrament of Penance and Reconciliation(commonly called Confession, Reconciliation or Pena nce) is the method by which individual men and women may be freed from sins committed after receiving the Sacrament of Baptism.

Meaning
The sacrament involves three steps: the penitent's contrition or sorrow for his sins, the actual confession to a priest and absolution, and then penance or restitution for your sins. Confession gives one a wonderful sense of freedom and peace from the burden of sin. Sorrow, affliction, and a desire for conversion follow the remorse of sin in those with a contrite heart.

Sacramentals
Sacramentals are holy things or actions of which the Church makes use to obtain for us from God, through her intercession, spiritual and temporal favors. Sign of the cross- chief sacramental used in the Church Prayer of Contrition Penance, also known as confession and reconciliation, is one of the sacraments of healing in the Church. The sacrament encompasses four parts: contrition, confession, satisfaction or penance, and absolution.

Sacramentals
Contrition means that we are sorry for our sins, and we intend to try to do better. Confession is the act of stating our sins to a priest. This is always required with mortal or serious sins, but is also a good and pious practice with venial or less serious sins. Satisfaction or penance consists of prayers or particular actions the priest assigns to us to show our sorrow, and to make some amends for our actions. And finally absolution - the words Jesus Christ speaks to us, through the priest - freeing us from our sins. Jesus set up this sacrament as a way to heal sin and human weakness. He told the apostles: "Whose sins you forgive are forgiven them, and whose sins you retain are retained" (John 20:21-22).
