There are many different ways to form questions. We will learn two kind of questions. One is called a Yes/No question and the other is called WH- question.

Yes/No questions
Yes/No question is a question that can be answered with yes or no. Structure: Be (not) + S + V? Auxiliary We put auxiliary verb before subject, we also invert subject and the verb Put auxiliary at the beginning of a sentence Answer: Yes + positive verb No + negative verb

Example
1. Isnt Mary going to school today? No, she isnt 2. Have you seen this movie before? Yes, I have 3. Will Tom go to France next month? Yes, he will 4. Do they have to go home now? No, they dont

Wh- question Question can be asked for information.

What (thing) When (time, year, month, day) Where (prep + place) Why (reason) Who (person) Which + noun (choice) What time (time) How ( the way you do something, transportation) How old (age) How often (frequency) How long (the period of time) How many (quantity) How much (cost) What for (usage)

Present continuous is adj +S V-ing are

Simple present do +S+(adv)+V? does Simple future will +S+V ? shall

Present perfect has +S+(adv)+V? have Can May Should Would+S+V? Might could Present perfect had +S+ V3/ed

past continuous was adj +S V-ing were

Simple past did + S + V?

Distinguish between the Who, Whom, and Whose


Who and Whom are used to ask someone, anyone. But Who holder used in place of tasks in question also remain on duty Whom object in question. Structure: Who + verb + (complement) + (modifier) Whom + auxiliary + S + V + (modifier) Ex: Who opened the door? Whom did you meet last night?

Whose is the ownership of Who Structure: Whose + verb + S Ex: Whose is this umbrella? Its mine  Whose can be used as an adjective in question, then followed with a noun Whose right. Structure: Whose noun + auxiliary verb +S+complement? Ex: Whose pen are you using?


What and Which distinction

NOTE:
1. Who is that man? He is John (name) 2. What is he? He is a teacher (job) 3. What is he like? He is kind, humorous (character) 4. What does she look like? He tall, long black hair, round face ( body)

NOTE: Who/ Which/ what is the object and is the subject


Structure
Object Who Which + aux verb + S +V +. What


Ex: Who did Anna do to dance with? What is the date today?

Subject Who Which + verb + complement What




Ex: Who wants something to eat? What happened to you last night? Which bus goes to city center?
