In this assignment I will be Describing and Explaining the primary skills, techniques, and tactics to take part in one team sport, which is Rugby. There are 3 main skills in this team sport: Passing Tackling Kicking

Passing skills are very important. It is the movement of the ball from one play to another and the ball should moves quicker than the player which is why the quality of passing is vital. Moving the ball effectively gives you the advantage, as defenders cannot keep pace. You can create space and get around the pitch and create tries. It is important to develop accurate passing skills.

The Lateral Pass - this travels sideways or backward. The Switch Pass this changes direction of the play. The Loop Pass this helps to put a player either through a gap in the defensive line or into a space around the far edge of the defence.

Place ball in both hands Carry at chest height Look at opponent Look at receiver and prepare to pass the ball

Swing arms towards receiver Push ball with rear hand Flick wrists and fingers as ball leaves hand

Watch ball as it leads your hands Point finger at target area Change your running angle and follow ball carrier

Ball Carrier: Hold ball in both hands only finger contact Carry at chest height Threaten the defender Change running angle quickly to go between the defender and receiver.

Receiver: Make a target eg. Hold your hands out in readiness for the ball. Watch the defender and ball carrier Run faster as the ball is passed.

Ball Carrier Pop the ball in front of the target softly. Turn as you pass so that the ball is hidden from the defender.

Ball Carrier: Run to support the new ball carrier. For this pass to be successful the ball must always be visible to your team in particular the player who is going to receive the pass. It is used to redirect the attack.

Place ball in both hands with only fingers contact Carry at chest height Threaten the defender Run slightly inwards inwards and draw defender away from pass direction.

Receiver makes a target with hands He watches the defender He determines the length of the pass Looks at target and passes into the gap

Make the first pass and then run to support or receive a return pass from team member. It is important to practice passing at different lengths to develop skills.

Tackling is very important in the game of rugby. The two most important things when you are tackling is to get your opponent on the floor as quickly as you can to slow the momentum of your opponent and gain the ball. Low tackling is the most effective way of getting your man on the floor. Focus makes you make a successful tackle and can give you the progressive technique to master the skill of a good tackle.

Rugby Union rules state that when a player is tackled, they must pass or release the ball straight away. They must move away from the ball and get up on their feet before playing the ball again. The three tackles described here are:

Side Tackle Front Tackle Rear Tackle

There are two basic ways of kicking the ball in rugby: From your hand e.g. The Punt, Chip kick, Box kick. From the ground e.g. place kick or drop kick.

It is important, if you wish to play good rugby to practice kicking accurately using both feet. You should attempt to improve accuracy, height and distance. It is a good opportunity for team mates to practice receiving the ball.

The aim of the game is very simple - use the ball to score more points than the other team. You can run with the ball, kick it and pass it, but passing forwards is not allowed. Rugby union is a contact sport, so you can tackle an opponent in order to get the ball, as long as you stay within the rules. There is a referee, aided by two touch judges (one on each side of the pitch), to decide how the rules should be applied during a game. There are several ways to score points. A try - five points are awarded for touching the ball down in your opponent's goal area. A conversion - two points are added for a successful kick through the goalposts after a try A goal kick - three points are awarded for a penalty kick or drop goal through the posts

If both teams score the same amount of points, or no points are scored, then the match is a draw. In some cases, extra time is played to decide who wins. A game of rugby union has two periods of 40 minutes each. In international matches the referee will stop the clock for stoppages. Between the two halves, there is a maximum 10minute interval, after which both teams change ends. The referee's whistle indicates the start and finish of the half.

This is another type of team sport which I will describing and explaining the skills and techniques.

There are three types of techniques which you need to master to gain the best skills in this sport: Shooting Passing Dribbling

1. 2. 3.

When shooting at goal from a distance or making longer passes to your team mates, you need both power and accuracy. The top of the foot where the laces are on a traditional boot is the best part of the foot to use for this kick.

This is a link which shows how to perform a effective shot. www.mastersport.co.uk Try to approach the ball from the side rather than straight on. It makes it easier to drive the ball than if you come at it straight on. Keep your knee bent over the ball as you kick, and keep your head over the ball.

The most accurate way of passing the football is to use the inside of the foot. This is the flattest part of the foot giving you the most control over where the ball goes.

www.mastersport.co.uk In this video it explains how to effectively perform an successful pass. It explains that once you have performed the and mastered the technique , the vision and skill will come into play and show how effective your technique is.

Dribbling skills can be mastered by the using the swerve method. This method will help attackers get away from defenders.

The body swerve is the simplest and often most efficient means of disguise for dribbling the football past defenders. When you move the ball to the side, your body weight naturally transfers in the direction in which you want to go before the ball changes direction. Defenders tend to notice the change in body weight, and learn to anticipate your move. We are going to build up our skills with a series of exercises, and finish up by learning the body swerve

This video shows how to perfect the swerve method. www.mastersport.co.uk

There are two types of Tactics in Football. They include: Basic attacking team tactics Basic Defending team tactics

The objective of the game is to score goals, but certain variables such as the score line can influence a particular teams desperation to perform and stir the other team up. The following team styles represent some of the methods used to control the game and instigate attacks: Possession football, Counter-attacking football, Long ball direct plays etc.

There are two types of Basic defending. They are known as Zonal and Man to Man marking.

Man-to-man marking means certain individuals are responsible for guarding a particular opponent. Man-to-man marking is particularly effective alongside a sweeper who has a free role, enabling him/her to support anyone having problems with his opponent and reducing the potency of through-balls and balls played over the top of the defence for forward players to run onto.

This is the diagram to explain the tactics the team uses whilst performing Man to Man Marking.

To cover for a teams (or players) lack of pace or technique, every defender and midfielder is given a particular zone on the pitch to cover when the opposition has the ball. As you can see in the diagram there are two rows of four to defend the attacking front row of the opposition.

These rules are important to take part in the sport of football. At its core, football is a game with two teams of eleven players, played over the course of 90 minutes. This period is split into two 45minute halves. The objective of the game is to score more goals than the opposition. The term goal refers to two areas either side of the pitch, each one defended by one of the teams. A goal is scored by depositing the ball into the opponents area.

All Athletes are different levels have to abide by these rules if they are to be successful in the sport of football.
