Business intelligence software at SYSCO

Problem statement Issue: To purchase Business Intelligence software (BIS) from Business Objects

Why purchase required 1. to solve the issue of redundant data 2. to integrate the data from decentralized operating companies 3. to leverage the available data warehouse to improve decision making through monitoring and analytical capabilities

Benefits of BIS
Advanced analytics

Performance management

End user analysis

Self service reporting

Evaluation of available options
Positives: Minimize upfront investment & training expenses Provide an opportunity to learn new unknown territory Negatives: Disallow the licensing of the customer intelligence analytical module (CIAM) Time consuming re-creation of calculation for analytical mode-required Positives: Enable licensing of the CIAM More licenses than bare bones approach Negatives: Not much difference in terms of cost in between this and volume approach no accurate predictive analysis from CIAM without cross value chain information

Bare bones

Middle of the road

VOLUME DISCOUNT

Positives: best from cost and adoption perspective, sharing of business data with large group, discounts available Negatives: proprietary semantic layer of Business Object, while ground breaking, may not support the unique business model of SYSCO.

impact of different scenarios
Approach /available option Bare bones approach Resistance from operating companies Depends on data centralization - high resistance for high centralization & vice versa High resistance Due to full centralization Decentralization to centralization of data Not fully centralized data- would require high development cost in future Full centralization of data Dependency on Business object firm Not much consultant service required from vendor so low dependency Highly dependent on business object

Middle of the road

Volume discount

Full centralisation would invite most resistance from the firms

Best if centralisation of data required Can become a differential factor and competitive advantage

Over dependency on business object for technical support
